Motivational Monday...Small Big Gestures

Often when we are contemplating our lot in life and what we can do to make a difference, we forget about the little things.

Yes, wouldn’t it be nice if we could donate millions to finding the cure motivational mondayfor cancer?  Think of all of the millions of people who could be saved.

Or what about closer to home...finding a way to make sure that our town’s young children had the reading skills that will carry them through their lives.

The other day we went to the County Tax Collector’s office to register our cars. We went as soon as it opened on one of our coldest days of the season.

There is a lady just inside the door who will make sure that you’re in the right place, then give you a number.  The temps were in the low 40s (ok, not cold by some standards but cold for us!)

Because people were coming in and waiting, the door was left open. That poor lady was freezing.

After the gentleman in front of me got his number, he very politely asked the lady at the desk “Can I shut that door for you?”

Her smile was huge. “Thank you, I would love it!”

The rest of us were standing there in our own worlds waiting to get our number but that very small gesture by this gentleman made the lady’s day.

It’s always been said that the smallest gestures can have the biggest impacts. Carry that with you this week and into 2020.

If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way. Napoleon Hill

Kathy,

Kathy Streib I had to do some soul-searching last year after misplacing my faith in a particular animal rescue agency. So I went online and reminded myself about how to pick charities worthy of getting donations. Soooooo, just in case you do ever have that $1M - in particular, this institution, GiveWell, seeks out non-profits which are making the most effective use of their charitable distributions. Its list of recipients is fascinating and inspiring.

Wayne Martin I am a huge fan of small gestures and how they can add up.

Michael Jacobs we were all concerned about how long we might have to wait, we didn't think of that lady behind the desk and how colde it was for her.

Sham Reddy CRS   even a simple good morning served with a smile can have a big impact for the person who might be feeling alone.

Donald Urschalitz I believe you're right. I'm still thinking about the person who showed me an open line at the grocery store the other day.
