Catch Us If You Can

Yesterday, the Decades cable channel had a repeat of a salute to the Ed Sullivan Show. Among the many acts revisited were the Dave Clark Five singing "Catch Us If You Can." I had not heard this song for many years.

With the New Year fast approaching, what an appropriate sales and marketing theme for any real estate team whether that team is formal or informal. The goal is to be ahead of all the other real estate firms and realtors.

The reason I like this song as a theme is for the following four reasons:

First, this is a positive theme. It is a challenge to other real estate teams and realtors. You and fellow teammates have figuratively thrown down the gauntlet and are encouraging others to do better by “catch us if you can.” I believe even when the competitors do better, we all do better as there is more than enough business for everyone. Years ago a colleague stated “we drive by more business than we will ever have.” His words still resonate with me more than 20 years later.

Second, the line “here they come again” suggests for you and your team to stay vigilant and not become complacent. Sales complancey happens quite often. There will always be new realtors, new sales teams and new sales approaches to securing business. In real estate, we see that with Zillow entering the market along with firms like Open Door.

Third, it spurs your team members to stay active, to keep on working even when some transactions go south with the words “Time to get a move on.” Each day requires pre-directed (think planned) ethical actions, to know where you are going and what you are going to do. In real estate, the actions may not be pre-determined because of last minute showing appointments to unforeseen obstacles within any transaction. You must be prepared for the unexpected and be ready to “get a move on.”

Fourth and finally, this song is emotional with the words “we will yell with all of our might.” Human beings are emotional creatures first. We make our decisions usually based on emotions justified by logic. Think of all those high school football teams when they rush out to the field yelling. Those yells kindle their emotions.

As the New Year is just around the corner, consider adopting this song, "Catch Us If You Can" as your 2020 theme to help unite all your real estate team members into reaching new levels of real estate sales success.

Hello Leanne - once again - that song/theme may be a difficult one to get out of my head...   That's a good thing.  The message - an excellent reminder.  For a new day as well as a new year.

I agree about getting the song out of one's head. Yesterday it was constantly playing in mind.  Thank you again for the kind words Michael Jacobs

I too found the Dave Clark 5 as one of my favorites along with Chad and Jeremy.  The music of the 60's is still among my favorites. Thanks Will Hamm
