One of the nicest compliments a home stager can receive is when their client contacts them to let them know that the prospective buyer wants everything used in the home staging.  I've had the good fortune of receiving that request on a number of different occasions and each time I feel completely honored.

In this particular case, it may boil down to the shower curtain used in the condo I had staged.

Here's a portion of the note I received from the homeowner last night.

The buyer wants us to leave the shower curtain.  She loves it!!  Please let me know so we can include it or exclude it in the counter we're going to make before 3:00 tomorrow.

After telling her that I would gladly provide the shower curtain at no charge, here was her response:

Thanks for being so understanding about the shower curtain.  It's funny what people fall in love with.  That just proves how important staging is.

I think she's right.

Wow, it is amazing what people will ask for.  Who knew it would be a shower curtain!  Thanks for your post, I enjoyed also looking at your pictures, Beautiful!

Great story Kathy.  You never know what will really stand out for someone do you?  Okay, you have to post a photo of that bathroom so that we can see the curtain!  We all better run out and buy a bunch of them (lol)

Kathy - Too funny!  I would have to say that out of all the requests for a specific item I've gotten, it has never been for the shower curtain.  It must really make that bathroom!  Great job!  Seeing your other photos I am sure it looked amazing!

Kathy: Where's a photo of the special shower curtain? Congrats on aiding in another sale. You do great work and deserve this recognition.

Where is the picture of this beautiful showre curtain? We had something happen to one of our shower curtains one time.  Some buy decided to take all the tools out of the homeowners garage one night (it was a vacant) and used my shower curtain to do it!  One of only three items ever to be taken from our jobs but that was a doosey. Kathy - wow, that must be some shower curtain!!!  We need photos.

I did an occupied home last week and she just called to tell me she has fallen in love with all the accessories and wants to use them in her new home. Happens all the time.  :)

Kevin - If it were my couch, I perhaps would consider giving it to you (smile).

Thanks, Gary.

That was very kind of you to view my pictures.  Thanks, Amie.

Charlene - Ya just never know.

Elle - This is a first for me as well.

Michelle - you're always so sweet with your words.  Thank you.

Kym - Oh no.... I'm glad they didn't take more.

Maureen - I love it when it happens.

All -are you sitting down?  Here's the picture of the shower curtain.  I don't much care for it personally (the bathroom that is) but... the prospective buyer LOVES it and the shower curtain.  Okay... Something isn't working right as it won't allow me to upload the picture.  I'll try later in the day.  In the interim, try to remain calm.

Kathy- I love stories like these! My last one was the new buyer wanted the dry weeds I had in a pot on the floor. Not the pot, just the weeds! Very strange! I have to admit, I am very curious about that shower curtain!

Kathy ~ I'm sure they appreciated your generous spirit in letting the buyer keep it too .... waiting to see the photo!  (P.S. On a staging job a couple of years ago, the seller called me to ask if I would allow the buyer to keep the "window covering" in a guest bedroom and they had actually written it into their offer!  But it was actually nothing more than a sheet, tied over to the side with a simple rosette pin.  Of course I said yes and everyone was happy.  Lots of good will was generated for about $12.)

Elaine - I so wish I could post this picture but... it won't let me.  I know the site was having proxy related issues but didn't know that it won't let me post a picture.   I'll keep trying.

Maureen - The homeowners were indeed appreciative.  The cost of the shower curtain $7.00 (Ross).  How it made my heart feel when giving it to them; well, like a million bucks.

What a great story!  You so generous, Kathy.  That was nice of you.  You can't put a price tag on that.  I'll bet another shower curtain that you'll get more business from that kind gesture!  =)  (yes, waiting to see the picture!)

Kathy, this is what sets you apart as a great business woman! While some would have been thinking about ways to "make a few extra bucks" by selling that curtain, you did not only the right thing, but the best thing by throwing in that curtain. You have generated tons of goodwill for yourself and for the staging industry as a whole. Way to go, my friend!

Kathy,

Okay, dying to see this shower curtain - i see on one of your posts where you say, here it is, but  I don't see it!  Whaaa.  Please share!  This just goes to show you that it's all in the details.  Please post the picture.  I also like that you gave the curtain away.  I think, as you obviously do, that giving a little extra always pays off.

Kathy, in preparing my first vacant this week I remembered this post when I was buying the shower curtain. Sometimes its the small things that make a big impression. Thanks for sharing.

Truly a "Stage it Forward" situation.  Not charging the home owner for the shower curtain made both the seller and the buyer very happy, I'm sure.
