Observatory Heights Water Main Replacement, Gaithersburg, Maryland

WSSC will be replacing/rehabilitating about 1.1 miles of 6", 8" and 10" water mains in the Observatory Heights neighborhood of Gaithersburg. The existing pipes, installed 60 to 100 years ago, are nearing their end of life. They will be replaced with zinc-coated ductile iron pipe, which is expected to last another 100 years.

The construction, starting in spring/summer 2020, is expected to take about a year. Some trees may need to be removed as part of this project, and parking restrictions may be necessary. Water disruption should be minimal, but if it's needed, WSSC will contact residents 48 hours in advance. Click here for details and a map of the project.

This is a City of Gaithersburg, Maryland announcement.

Hi Roy - some of the water mains in New York City are even older than that.

With so much publicity about aging water delivery infrastructure, I'm certain folks in Observatory Heights see this replacement as good news!
