June 10, 2008 (Washington, D.C.) - A vast majority of Americans, across all political parties, overwhelmingly support development and funding of solar energy. Ninety-one percent of Republicans, 97 percent of Democrats and 98 percent of Independents agree that developing solar power is vital to the United States.

These and other findings were reported today in the SCHOTT Solar Barometer(TM), a nationally representative survey conducted by the independent polling firm, Kelton Research.

"The U.S. Senate has an opportunity to act decisively by passing the Renewable Energy & Job Creation Act of 2008 (H.R. 6049) this week. This is smart policy that will help solar become a powerful economic engine for the country, stabilize energy prices for consumers and businesses and improve America's national energy security. A vote against this bill is a vote against what the vast majority of Americans are demanding," said Mr. Resch

Solar is the only abundant, clean, renewable source of energy on the face of the earth.  Why we haven't harnessed it and perfected the means to conver it to inexpensive power by now is beyond me.  Arizona could be the Saudi Arabia of solar energy if we just put the investment into it.  I am hoping that Barack Obama will make a proclamation to eliminate the U.S. dependency on oil by 2020. Something similar to Kennedy's goal of putting a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

I tell people, "Don't stand out in the sun for too long. It runs my vacuum cleaner."

Now, that is powerful language.

Solar has huge potential. I know there are number of larger scale installations planned for the western United States. Large installations in Arizona, Southern California and Nevada have the potential to make these parts of the country renewable energy hotbeds. Hawaii has legislation in front of the governor that would make solar hot water mandatory on all new construction after January 1, 2010. There is also a lot of Venture Capital money going to various solar companies that are looking at more efficient solar, storage systems and cheaper solar.

The emerging renewable energy economy also has some great potential to add new jobs to our floundering economy. Hopefully, we will see increased political will to embrace these alternatives.

Jerry-  Thanks for checking in. I would love to see our new president step to the plate on this issue, along with Congress and our elected leaders.  Other countries see the value of solar, are they wrong and us right?

Sabrina-  thank you for your input.  Our vacuum cleaners will be running  off of solar.  I guess its just a matter of when...

Pete-  great info you  provided.  Been watching the solar hot water issue in Hawaii- will be interesting to see if it actually passes.  And yes there are some large project going on out west.  Actually think largest project in North America slated for Canada..?? And yes lots of investment $ going into solar, hopefully lack of public policy doesnt shade future investments. thanks for your insight

John- thanks for checking in.  I inadvertently posted this to the Business broker group, but glad you picked up on it.  By the way, I have somewhat of a unique perspective on the business broker side, having recently sold my business of 20 years and experienced first hand the "trial and tribulations" of a significant event for me. thanks
