Why You Should Embrace $3.99 Gasoline

Gas

If gas were cheap, there would be no incentive to change. No one would focus on conservation. Currently, hybrid vehicles are so hot that the auto industry can't produce enough to satisfy demand. Let's face it, the price of gas will probably continue to climb and the only solution is to quit relying on oil. Oil isn't the only natural resource the nation has focused on lately. There is a movement to go green with household products and green building materials. I am using energy efficient and earth friendly products in my home, who else is embracing the change?

Gina Kay Landis, also of Real Living Realty, also sees the positive side of the high gas prices, check out her blog article.

I live pretty green and grew up this way....I try to leave as little carbon imprint on the earth as I can......I even garden organically.....look at all the toxins that Americans dump on there lawns ever year....then check your local water and I guarantee that you will find those same chemicals in your local water table.......we are killing ourselves and people wonder why we keep getting worse and worse diseases......keep your body health and it will treat you right.....check out www.oilhappy.com if you are interested in treating your body naturally instead of chemically.....try peppermint oil for a head ache instead of a chemical......

Anyway I also think that gas prices might just be what the American public needs to cut our wasteful dependency to oil.....it really hurts the pocket book right now with the market they way it is as we are all struggling one way or another as I don't know anyone that this market has not effected there business somehow to the negative.....

It's not just hybrids though, my Kia Rondo gets the same gas mileage at my friends Ford Escape hybrid.  We do need to build more refineries, and invest more in nuclear power.  But, there is more involved here than just the price of gas going up, lots and lots of politcal stuff that goes on behind the scenes that drives up the price of a barrell of oil.

Christina...this is the first postive spin I have seen on the high gas prices and you have an EXCELLENT point here!  Thanks for pointing out how the glass is "half full" on this subject.  I plan to buy a hybrid next time I am in the market for a new vehicle and also try to be conscious of and incorporate more "green" in my life.  Even little steps help.

High gas prices will force change.  But the change will be difficult and may produce unexpected things to happen.  My concern is for small service businesses as the economy contracts to pay for fuel and higher food prices.  People may lose their jobs and that will not be pretty if it is widespread.

I also think that everyone has a different threshold. At what price does someone change their driving habits? For some it is right now, for others it could be another 2-3 dollars a gallon and for some, it could be never. They just chalk it up to the cost of living and charge it on the card!

That is true, Jim..everyone does have different thresholds, but I think most people at least consider gas prices now when planning to drive anywhere, which I think is a good thing for all of us.

Debra, Question for you, why do we pay the same amount per barrel of oil that is delivered right to the door of the refinery from pipelines her in Texas and other states as we are paying for oil that is shipped here via tanker ships?  Some say the government can not do anything about the price of oil, if anyone believes that they are out of touch with the truth.  There are some changes on the way but have you ever watched the film who killed the electric car by Sony Films?  I knew a guy that cut of his finger to stop the bleeding and so it seems we are willing to do to accept the price of oil.

$3.99 a gallon would be great again.  I am just posting this comment since I came on just a week or so ago, and I wanted to say that I completely agree with you.   I hope that alternatives are not too far out, since my F150 is really expensive to drive.  By the way, I can't give up my truck because I am in Oregon.

I wholeheartedly agree.  Higher gas makes alternative fuels and sources of energy more cost effective.  Our gas prices should be $5/gal and then not only would we be on par or close with most of the world but you would see electric cars, hydrogen cars, wind and solar energy innovation go through the roof!

Some people!  I am sure the oil hogs, you know the ones that all eat at the same trough they would love to just raise prices so we could develop bicycle's with bigger peddles and no brakes so we could save all that energy.  I think we should get them to put the gas price at $ 30.00 a gallon.  We could develop shoes with multi wheels for down hill coasting. We could get sidewalks all down hill one lane and the other direction all down hill.  We might get the oil companies to fund this project with the all time profits they are now enjoying.  Some people will just ingest anything.

Don, I do agree with you.  I have not seen that movie but it has been  in my Netflix cue for a while....sounds like it is time to move it up!
