Throwback Thursday: Mustard Blooms!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

This photo was taken last June, on the road to visit the Rose Falls which are located in the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County. ( Wiki. Los Padres includes most of the mountainous land along the California coast from Ventura to Monterey, extending inland. Elevations range from sea level to 8,847 feet. )The mustard was still in bloom and plentiful on both sides of the road.

When we arrived there, it was a 20 minute walk up hill.  You could hear the water running into the stream, and then we saw this glorious site!  It is on our to do list for this year!

Happy Thursday!

Hello Alexandra and Ron - so many opportunities to enjoy life.  The sound of a stream off in the distance.  Or maybe the rustling of wind as we advance on a hillside.  The scent of our surroundings and even the briskness of air.  While I may not be able to quickly identify mustard blooms it takes just a moment to understand what a delight it can be when we just "be".

Nina Hollander we are alreading mustard in bloom, when we take the freeway North to the wine country!  Today, we went south to have our teeth cleaned.  No mustard in bloom!  In the wine country, they are used to add nitrogen to the soil and they get plowed under when the vines start budding.  A

Michael Jacobs easy to distinguish mustard blooms from clover blooms which are also yellow.  The mustard are taller and the yellow is warmer.  The clover color is less warm and they are shorter.  Heading South today to the dentist, we did not see any yellow blooms, unlike when we head North towards Buellton or Santa Ynez.  We love waterfalls, they remind me of the train rides through the Swiss Alps where watefalls abound!  A

What a beautiful sight those mustard greens are.  When I was a young bride, my husband worked 5 hours at night, while finishing college during the day.  We had a young son.  On weekends, my hubby would go out and fish or hunt.  My mother would often take walks with me along a river bank where mustard greens grew prolifically.  They are wonderful stir-fried and then served with a little red wine garlic vineager.  We didn't go hungry.  A little tip: The greens are best picked just before full flower.
