REPOSTED INFORMATION

Information From Lauren Palmer, Deputy City Manager.

Volunteers are needed.  All volunteers wanting to assist with the continuing cleanup from the recent weather event should report to the northwest corner of the Bill Snyder Family Stadium parking lot (near the corner of Kimball and College Avenues) between 9:00am and 3:00pm on Friday, June 13.  Those volunteers should dress appropriately (long pants and shirts, work gloves if available) and will be transported to the affected areas.

  • In addition, all those with vehicles and equipment to use in support of the continuing cleanup effort should call 587-2489 or 587-2404 so they can be put in direct contact with those needing greater assistance.
  • Any property owner or tenant needing assistance from volunteers, vehicles and equipment should call  587-2489  or  587-2404  to register for assistance.
  • The volunteers will be in great need of food and beverages.  Any business, including restaurants and caterers, who are willing to provide food for the volunteers are requested to call 587-2404.  This will be especially important today.
  • The volunteeers are also in need of more work gloves.  The City asks that any donated items be brought to the main control center at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium parking lot.

•·         Please Note:  The County is transferring all requests to the City of Manhattan.

The City of Manhattan is very appreciative of all the volunteer help and materials provided by the businesses and the community yesterday!

If you would like to volunteer in Chapman, the best way to get involved is to call the Red Cross at 537-2180

There is a shelter set up at the Chapman Middle School. They are also busing residents to a shelter that is set up in Abilene.

Back in July I visited Manhattan and the devastation was unbelievable. Pictures do not do the justice to seeing first hand, but they give you a pretty good idea of what mother nature is capable of. WOW!

This will sound a little strange coming from Californis and earthquake land but my son is being recruited for football by Kansas State...How often do tornados touch down around there and is the school in a safe area (if there is such a thing) I know it sounds weird but when all we do is hear about them they seem scary...I supose like earthquakes to you guys.

Thanks for any input

Dan
