Virginie Amélie Avegno was born in New Orleans, Louisiana back in 1859 to Anatole and Marie. Her father served as a major in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War where he died in 1862, during the Battle of Shiloh. In 1867, her mother moved the family to France where she was educated in Paris. She married Pierre a French banker and shipping magnate.
It is recorded that her beauty was something she used to her advantage having numerous affairs, even while married. She died in 1915, she was 56.
