Oh, who am I kidding?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

I just found this on the information superhighway (thank you Al Gore), and couldn't resist sharing it.  It's funny, 'cause as Realtors, we know it's also potentially true.

I can actually hear it. Can't you?

There are just so many stupid things that sellers, contractors, handymen do that make our jobs that much more difficult.

I don't mean to single them out... plenty of things that fellow Realtors, buyers and family members do, too.

As well as local politicians, federal politicians, vendors and loan officers, inspectors... hey, you name it.

Let's just narrow it down to everyone in the freakin' world has the ability to make our jobs more difficult.

Excepting, of course, ourselves.

Oh, who am I kidding?... I'm just as responsible for making my life more difficult... just ask my ex.

Ha - love it!  The smoke detector thing reminded me of something I heard on the radio (I think) the other day...this guy's father has been talking to a "squirrel" everytime he walked by a certain area of his home - the thought a squirrel was living under the house or something...his son had to "kill his pet squirrel" by telling him that it was really a smoke detector in the home chirping because of a low battery!

That is classic.  The worst I ever saw was a remodeled kitchen where an HVAC vent was inside a cabinet.  Jay Markanich called it the bread warmer.

Jay Markanich definitely has a way with words.

And a bread warmer it was!

With my thermal camera I have found countless HVAC registers covered with drywall, and flooring, and ceramic tile, and once a refrigerator!  And receptacles covered with drywall as well.

And with that hole in the ceiling that smoke detector should have no problems, um, detecting!

When the Internet was created my mother was a young secretary at the Pentagon (they were using the Internet at the Dept of Defense) and Algore was still sucking his thumb.

Her claim to fame was in 1940 when running around a corner with an armful of papers and slamming smack into General Eisenhower.  Her papers scattered everywhere and he helped her pick them up!

My uncle's great claim to fame was in the European theatre, where he was standing in the latrine, and General Patton walked in and stood next to him.

The General slapped him on the shoulder and said in that booming Patton voice "Tough war soldier!", and my uncle, who was rarely at a loss for words replied meekly: "yeah".

Having restored Victorian homes for over a decade, I used to think I'd seen it all. But as your post points out, I ain't seen nothin' yet. What is the matter with people??

Alan- you do have a way of making me laugh!!!!  This reminded me of when our neighbor when around his home sealing all of the weep holes to try to conserve energy. We\ve all done it or seen these things. I do miss seeing Jay Markanich Mighty Mo.

Ot you can ask my exes. If we make if difficult then we can't cast the first stone. But after that practice toss we can really nail the fastball on the second.
