Earth Month Celebrations in Carlsbad
April 2020
NOTE: Given the Stay-at-Home Order in place in California as of March 19th due to the coronavirus, all Earth Month 2020 activities will either be postponed or canceled.
As many other communities will do, Carlsbad will celebrate Earth Month in April 2020, with a number of events for residents.
Here’s the schedule of Carlsbad’s Earth Month events – be sure to add them to your calendar so you don’t miss out!
Saturday April 4th is the Shred and Recycle It event – you can get rid of sensitive documents for free in an environmentally-safe way. Registration is required at (760) 929-9400 or on the waste management website, and runs from March 16th through April 3rd, or until they reach capacity. Proof of residency is needed!
Saturday April 11th is the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event. This is only for Carlsbad residents (proof of residency required) and an appointment is necessary, with registration required until event is full, beginning March 23rd. Drop off is at 5815 El Camino Real
On Saturday April 18th residents can enjoy the Earth Day 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Pine Avenue Community Park, at 3209 Harding Avenue from 9 am until 12 noon. Advance registration is needed. There will be lots of fun with quick pickle making, crop swapping, free composting workshops, and other eco-friendly activities, plus live music.
Also on April 18th, from 9 am until 1 pm, take advantage of the Donate Don’t Waste Collection event at Fire Station 1 at 1275 Carlsbad Village Drive. Instead of dropping your stuff at the landfill, why not donate small home appliances, small furniture items, electronics, house-wares and home décor, sporting goods, plus gently used clothing, shoes and accessories that can be reused by Goodwill.
The 18th Annual Creek to Bay Clean-up takes place in Carlsbad, and over 100 sites around San Diego County, from 9 am until Noon, Saturday April 25th. See the Creek to Bay Clean-up website for the current sites for clean-ups and for registration which begins April 1.
Celebrate Arbor Day on April 25th in Carlsbad by helping the Parks and Recreation Department, and other Carlsbad residents, plant trees in our community from 8 until 10:30 am, at Pine Avenue Community Park (3209 Harding Avenue). Help Carlsbad maintain its Tree City status (15 years as of the 2019 update).
Just a quick caveat…just in case. Given all the events, meetings, classes, etc. that are being canceled by many communities due to the coronavirus, it’s possible some of these activities may be canceled or rescheduled as well. I will let you know if I hear, but you can also check with the City of Carlsbad website for Earth Month for updates.
