Goodbye Carlsbad Village Art & Antique Mall
You Will be Missed!
It seems like just a few weeks ago that I learned about the future demise of the Carlsbad Village Art and Antique Mall. In reality it was last fall when I first heard about this.
This quirky, fun-looking set of buildings has housed multiple vendors, and been a staple of the Village, for about 30 years.
The Carlsbad Village Art and Antique Mall is being torn down, or perhaps more correctly - re-used and renovated - to be replaced by State Street Commons, an upscale multi-purpose facility reportedly with 21,000 SF of restaurant and retail space, at 2742-52 State Street in the heart of the hip and artsy North State Area.
I had to meet with a tenant at my new listing hitting the market in this area on Tuesday, and drove down State Street on Friday. It's been a few weeks since I was in the area and I was pretty surprised at all the changes taking place and what's left of the Carlsbad Village Art and Antique Mall.
I'm trying to be optimistic that this is a good thing for the Village, but it's sad to think about the store owners and tenants who have been displaced after so many years. The Mas Fina Cantina is still there but, I understand, that is going to be gone as well.
The look and feel of this particular part of town will certainly be different. Stay tuned for progress reports!
