Non-essential businesses and facilities to close in Maryland: Today at 5 p.m.

An executive order has been enacted by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, which closes all non-essential businesses, organizations, and facilities in Maryland effective at 5 p.m. today.

This is NOT a shelter-in-place directive at this point.

This document, from Governor Larry Hogan’s office, outlines his executive order and what is/isn’t a non-essential business. https://governor.maryland.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/OLC-Interpretive-Guidance-COVID19-04.pdf

We have had the restaurants doing the same for a week now, Roy Kelley . Now we have gotten the directive to close businesses.  This is going to hurt a lot of people.

Marriott International, one of the largest employers in the D.C. region, will furlough two-thirds of its 4,000 corporate headquarters workers, and the same amount in its corporate offices around the world.

The furloughs will start in April, and could last as long as 90 days.

Marriott said hotel occupancy in North America and Europe have fallen below 25% in recent weeks, and hotel bookings are down about 70% compared to this time last year.
