Bozeman and Montana in general are very beautiful parts of the world.
As far as leveraging Bozeman's excellent outdoor activities, Northern California (totally unlike So Cal) is a tough place to compare. Sking, surfing, lake and ocean fishing, the greatest wine region in the world, the most photographed national park in the world and the list goes on.
No Cal has Lake Tahoe, Sonoma County, Napa County, beaches, lakes, and ocean, Yosemite, Russian River, Lake Berryessa, Mount Tam, the Sierras, Muir Woods, Point Reyes, and every activity you listed above.
This is a tough market to compete against.
