They say, "Imitation is the sincerest of flattery."  Well, kudos to David Letterman for spawning the Top Ten List era. Or was it Johnny Carson -- whom Letterman tried to replace upon his retirement, but lost out to Jay Leno?

I will give you the Top 19 Reasons why people moved in the U.S. (You get the extra bonus of nine for being a member of AR.)

Note: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are various reasons why an average of 100,000 people moved each day in 2006. For a breakdown by gender see "Migration - Not Just for the Birds."

(Statistics from U.S. Census Bureau - Migration Report - 2006)

Feel free to use any information from me that might help your business. Afterall, "Imitation is...."

I am suprised that the new job is only about 8%.  Also suprised that the divorce rate is only about 6%.  Seems like everyone in our area is either getting a new job or getting divorced.

That's very interesting, the last few times I have moved have been job/better apartment related. I think the next time I move it will not be for a better apartment (mine rocks!) but for a better neighborhood, perhaps at the cost of a worse apartment.

Poppy - Thanks for responding...all the way from London. I think your world and mine have to be about opposite when it comes to the weather. Phoenix, AZ - 312 days of sunshine. London = 2.  :) I enjoy your blogs. The only thing missing is your accent.

Georgina - Some how I don't think the U.S. Census Bureau put that down as an option to select.  However, you can bet people would have selected it.

Kevin, I an surprised that moving to cheaper housing was way up there at 6.2%.  That is a positive sign that homeownership is still affordable.

Georgina- ROTFLMBO!

Hi Kevin, Thanks for sharing that information, its very interesting to see the statistics on that.  It will be very intersting to see how that changes over the next few years.

Carla - I think the encouraging part for realtors is that even though the economy is struggling, there are still a ton of people that move each year - 40K - for various reasons. Glad you took the time to stop by.
