Whoosh There Goes An Onomatopoeia

For seemingly no reason, my mind wandered to the word onomatopoeia.   You know words that are pronounced like the sound one might imagine they would make.

Woof.  Meow.  Cock-A-Doodle Do.  Three of many.    Of course, examples extend beyond the animal world.  Words found every day and not-so-often.

I was thinking of the topic of onomatopoeia when I saw yet another clickbait ad.  Both my mind and my  laptop mouse didn't react with an Eek but went in the direction of click.  An onomatopoeia.  The ad and the moment went away in a whoosh.  Gone. Thankfully, so is today's discussion of onomatopoeia.   Onto more pondering...perhaps paradox.

I would like to say "learned something new today" but I doubt I will remember this word tomorrow. (that may be too generous. probably won't remember it in an hour.)

I had to click on the link to learn the meaning of onomatopoeia. Thanks for the interesting lesson.

Sharon Tara - ah, a challenge.  Let's see if you will be prepared.

Roy Kelley - I hope your Tuesday will be enjoyed.  It may look like yesterday.  And the day before that too.

Sharon Lee - I am glad to add some new vocabulary though I am not sure if there will be much everyday usage.

Will Hamm - I have lots of useless knowledge.  At times...too much.  Maybe way too much.

HI Michael Jacobs - Thank you for opening my mind to a new word.  Chances are I will never pronounce it correctly so I probably won't use it much. (Opps!)

Hi Michael- while I knew of the word, I had not used it in ages. It does roll off the tongue nicely though. Once social distancing has eased, it might be a fun word to try to fit into a conversation at a cocktail party. Although, since I don't attend cocktail parties...does anyone have those still...I won't' have a chance to use it.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I realize the likelihood of tossing this word into casual conversation is somewhat limited but know when an oooopsortunity may present itself.

Kathy Streib - maybe you can start a word-a-day game with your mini-me and her cousins.  I might suggest that you don't begin with this one.  It's important to keep their attention while they learn and that's difficult to achieve if they quickly lose interest.

Michael Jacobs - One of the good things that came out Cartoon Artists' imagery in comic books, strips, and scripts too was the use of bold onomatopeia's that filled up a child and/or an adults imagaination with sound, motion, and words! It's a great word!!!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I like how you pay homage to the comic book/graphic novel artists/masters who have a history of creative craftsmanship.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - you are far too kind.  If you don't think so, I might show you some transcripts from years err decades ago that will more than prove my point.

FYI... onomatopeia (pronounced like it is spelled) is a common word used in Spelling Bee's. That's how I learned how to spell it. It's a good word!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I believe I have heard that before which also reminds me of the excellent documentary on spelling bee competition from 2002 called Spellbound.  There is also a stage play The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee which covers the topic quite well.  I can highly recommend both.

Morning Michael.

Frankly, I don't recall of ever hearing that word before now. Of course, I can't remember some of the things I did yesterday

Even the word onomatopoeia is fun to say - and then to think of words that meet the definition is so relaxing! Snap, crackle, pop!

Why am I seeing reruns of the old Batman TV show?  I always liked the sound of this word, but always need to look up the spelling. That's why I didn't write it out here. I'd have to scroll all the way back up to your post from #32 in the comment section.  Lol. Alas, I'm at a loss for a word for scrolling up a screen.
