One Emotion to Look at Differently to Change Our Actions

Anger is viewed as a negative emotion. Maybe during these turbulent times we may need to look at anger differently.

What I am suggesting anger creates a 3-tine fork in the road. We can continue with anger and direct that anger at others. Taking this fork only increases stress and fuels other non-purposeful actions. We potentially lose hope. Our energy decreases and we are now in the flow of all that anger by others.

Another fork allows us to stay complacent, to stay in our places to allow the status quo to continue. Taking this fork gives us a false feeling of security. Here we are treading water unaware of others because the focus is only on us.

The third fork energizes to take pro-active action. This type of anger fuels us to move forward, to become more determine, to not let the status quo to hinder us in getting to where we need to go. We are going against the flow and in many instances truly ahead of the flow.

So often we fail to recognize and remember human beings are emotional creatures first. We do have total control on how we react to situations. How often do we succumb to focusing on what we cannot control?

Personally, I prefer in being control of my own life and not allowing others to be in control of my life. This often has me walking this fork alone. Walking this fork might be scary for some. Yet my personal mantra is “God hates a coward.” Yes I know God hates no one. For me, it keeps me focused on moving forward while others may not.

Maybe that is way the words of Robert Frost echo in my mind:

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference
