Finding the best school district for their children is often parents' number one criterion in looking for a home. If your family is looking for a home in Bethesda, Md, you can't do much better than Walt Whitman High School at 7100 Whittier Boulevard.  Whitman always is considered one of the best high schools in Maryland.  In addition to being a great school district, Whitman's location is also very convenient to get into DC or northern Virginia quickly.  Being in the Whitman School District is perfect if you are working at the new Marriott Headquarters in downtown Bethesda, Walter Reed or NIH.  From many of these homes it is an easy walk or bike ride into downtown Bethesda!

WHY CHOOSE WHITMAN HIGH SCHOOL

Whitman is one of the best schools in Maryland and offers a variety of sports, extracurricular activities and advanced placement courses for its students. Most of the students graduate from Whitman and go on to great colleges.  94 percent of Walt Whitman students who take Advanced Placement exams pass them. That’s a higher passing rate than four of the top five Maryland schools on this year’s list — including first-place Winston Churchill, according to the U.S. News data.

In addition, Niche ranked Walt Whitman in 2019 and in 2020 as third best public high school in the entire state of Maryland, with an A+ grade.  Not bad!  Whitman ranked behind Poolesville High School (#1) and Churchill (#2). It ranked ninth for the entire state in STEM.

There are 1977 students and a student/teacher ratio of 18 to 1.

Whitman offers a full range of sports from football and field hockey, bocce ball, swimming, soccer and cheer, to track, basketball, baseball, and wrestling - and lots of options in between. Extracurricular activities are also varied at Whitman, ranging from theater to It's Academic, debate to model U.N., film critics to a capello music groups and orchestral performances.  If you can imagine it there is likely a club at Whitman for it!  And the clubs are not just plentiful - they are good and offer lots of opportunities to try a new skill and make new friends.

WHERE IS THE WHITMAN HS'S DISTRICT?

Whitman's school district runs along River Road up to River Falls, and down to Somerset and Kenwood. It is next to Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS and south of Churchill High School.

Lise Bethesda sounds like an excellent community to purchase a property in, and raise a family.  Buyers in that area would be wise to call you first.

Hello Lise Howe,  18 to 1 ratio is a great number and that would be something that I would be looking for in a school.

Lise, most buyers have definite opinions on neighborhoods, and usually based on the school district.  Great information!
