Peter James Wyshner was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania back in 1915 to Peter Sr., and Antoinette. After his formal education, he worked as a water boy at Truesdale College, he was only 13. By the age of 19, he was playing outfield for the Hanover Lits Baseball Club of Wyoming Valley Anthracite League.
He later played semi-professional ball with Pine Grove in Pennsylvania and Scranton in Brooklyn, New York. In 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor he tried to join the United States Army but was turned down. When he joined semi-professional ball he changed his name. in 1942, he signed with a minor league team. His first time up to bat he hit a line drive, which drove in the two winning runs. In 1945, his contract was purchased by the St. Louis Browns where he played in 77 games with a batting average of .218. he died in 2002, he was 87.
What you may not know (remember he changed his last name) about Peter Gray is that he played baseball with only one arm. His right arm was amputated due to an accident when he was 8.
