Does one really need a "because"(a condition outside your control) to be happy? For instance, it is not unusual to hear people say, I am happy because___________! So when that condition disappears they become unhappy, and ready to blame or find fault with someone or a whole bunch of someones. Who is steering their lives? Who is the master of their lives and happiness?
In the post office yesterday, the gentleman before me was preaching doom and gloom to the young mail clerk, making all kinds of dire predictions. He was clearly unhappy and wanted all those around him to be equally unhappy! And no matter what joy the young man was spreading, the gentleman countered with additional reasons to be unhappy! When it was my turn, we laughed and joked.
Earlier this morning, I spent time texting with our niece who is still on an island in Thailand. No one is ill there, and she is living in a small cabin with views of the ocean. At this point coming home to Minneapolis is not an option, she does miss her family, friends, and dog, however she is not unhappy! She can afford to stay there for as long as it takes, she is in charge of her happiness! She is living well, and is looking forward to coming home, when life returns to normal.
Both Ron and I know that you can make a hell out of heaven, and a heaven out of hell. It is always our choice. We are in charge! No matter what the conditions which may annoy us for a second or two, we can pivot right back to being happy...We also find ourselves being even more creative when obstacles seem too daunting to overcome. And this has served us well! Who is in charge of your happiness?
Be happy for this moment, this moment is your life!

Everything has its wonders even darkness and silence, and I learn whatever state I may be in, therein to be content!
