Why Is Sedona Weather Almost Perfect?

April had a little of every temperature range! There is nothing hum-drum about the weather.  We enjoyed some Sedona 70º plus spring weather at the beginning of the month and around the 9th, a cold front came in and made it feel like winter for about 5 days. Of course, that is if your winter is in the 50ºs and 60ºs! We had no freezing temps and only 1 day dipped below 32º for about an hour. The mean temp was almost 1º higher than in April of 2019. This was probably due to 6 days of warm weather in the 80ºs and 3 days in the 90ºs.

The Perfect Amount of Rain

As for our precipitation, we had 5 days of rain for a total of .91 inches. This was perfect to enhance all the spring blooms. Everything is looking great. Drought conditions don't exist right now. Currently, we are on track to hit a little less than 300 days of sunshine. We are at 91 days and last year we were at 92 days of sunshine.

Making The Case...

So, when you put it all together, Sedona's weather is almost perfect.  Did I mention it doesn't get humid? This is another plus in my book.  No real hot sticky or bone-chilling weather, simply because of the lack of humid conditions. Even when it is warm, mornings and evenings are cool. That means you can have windows open bringing in our Sedona fresh air.  We do not run the AC all day. In fact, the AC was not run at all during April.

Sedona-Lifestyle

A *Comfort Index of 8.0 Means Very Pleasent Temps

This April, almost the entire month was above 70º. After leaving behind a fairly chilly March, April was almost perfect. There were only a couple of days that we put the AC on and that was only for a short time. The first day of < 80º weather was April 22nd at 81.3º.  Only 4 days later, we hit 90.1º on April 26th!

Every morning and evening, the doors and windows could be open to allow that fresh air in as noted above!  A 50º temperature is spring-like in Sedona. Low humidity means light sweater conditions.

Sedona Real Estate Spring Selling Season Starts In January

As I have said before, the Sedona spring selling season starts in mid to late January.  Many people from colder states are visiting and want to see homes or condo get-aways.  Of course,  Cactus League Baseball season which started in late February brings baseball fans and Snowbirds to Sedona and Arizona to take advantage of the warmer weather, celebration of Valentines' Day, Presidents Weekend, the Sedona International Film Festival, Spring Break, and did I mention the much warmer weather! Hiking is also huge this time of year. Needless to say, the pandemic has brought all of this to a halt.

Update On Pandemic Guidelines For Sedona and Other Areas

As Of May 4th, 2020

Of course, the baseball pre-season, as was all sports, was interrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic. See the Arizona Department of Health Services recommendations and COVID 19 statistics. You can find information on Arizona Governor Ducey's Executive Order detailing "Essential Services". Trailhead parking in Sedona is still closed during Physical Distancing Guidelines.

Sedona restaurants are open to take-out and some have delivery options as well. This started on March 20, 2020. As of this publication May 3rd, this is still ongoing. Like many other states, Arizona is slowly reopening restaurants and businesses. See Arizona business guidelines that are effective May 4th, 2020.

Arizona State parks and campgrounds are open for the most part.  Bathrooms are closed as well as any other park buildings or visitor centers. There are some state parks that are closed. See the list and learn more at the link above. Always remember to follow the CDC Guidelines for physical distancing and cleanliness.

Sheri & Rick, like Sedona, April really was a mixed bag depending on the day/week.  We had heavy wet snow, freezing temps, and last week the temps were nearly 90 --- just expect anything in April!

Hi Sheri... if Arizona is known for anything, it's for its weather and lack of humidity. It sounds like you had four seasons inside of one month this April.

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. - I think the lack of humidity helps to ease any temperature disparity. The comfort index is 80 for AZ.  It is slightly higher for California!

Hi Sheri! Boy, what a detailed answer to most buyers' relocating to Sedona's question. I have to say that Charlotte's weather was almost polar opposite yours last month with the number of days with precipitation and sunshine!
