Like gas prices, technology seems as though it's just taken off at an inexplicable and un-catch-up-able rate. Remember when gas hit $2 per gallon and we were all shocked (you should, it wasn't that long ago)? Remember when we were all told real estate agents need a website, and many groaned? That, too, wasn't too long ago.
A few months back (October to be precise), I began getting really into blogging, and I felt pretty on top of my game. I was seen as the go-to guy in our office for technology. Then I found fancy things like Snagit to spruce up my blog, and I knew I was ahead of the game. Next I landed on City-data.com and was part of a social network, and I was pretty sure I was the tech-iest.
Now I'm wondering if I will ever be able to keep up with what technology is offering. I'm also wondering if I'm letting all this wonderful tech stuff take the place of doing what I need to do to generate business. The real estate market is slower in my neck of the woods now, and keeping up with technology keeps me busy. Busy doesn't always equal productive. Much of what I've discovered has increased my business. Do I stick with that and not try to keep up with the rest? That doesn't seem smart.
So where does it end? Has City-data been replaced by Trulia Voices? Has that been replaced by Twitter? Is Twitter better than Facebook? Is ActiveRain better than Houssee? Is Agent Genius better than ActiveRain? Why use Snagit when there's Jing? Is Top Producer better than Outlook? Does it matter?
I'd love to get your opinions. Is all of this technology helping our business or is it keeping us busy? Is there a way to use what you need and dismiss what you don't? Where do you learn about what's new? How do you learn to use what's new? How much is enough? Post your comments, or text me, or Twitter or Tweet me, or put a bumper sticker on my wall...just give me your thoughts. Please.
