Are We There Yet?

I suggest you put away any thoughts of what may be happening in the world or with you or those close to you at the moment. Imagine taking a trip back to those days when you may have been on a road trip(of any duration) as a child.

Regardless of the length, it seemed to take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to reach your destination. Maybe you were told, like I was,  "half the fun is the journey" or similar words.  Perhaps you bought into the concept.  For a moment. And then the reality of the trip made its presence known again.

So whether it be a trip or something a bit more extreme.  My advice: listen to those who have the "knowledge".  Don't be lead by those who tell you they "know".  Experience matters and specific experience matters more. Not some backseat driver.

Sometimes, it means taking a breath or a pause.  Chill.  Perhaps. Listen carefully and examine what has been presented.  You will arrive(and perhaps as expected).   Believe it or not...it may be just-in-time.

Beth Atalay - the source is important.

Grant Schneider - crankiness seems to grow when oppressive hear is involved.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - it's nice when both fuel savings and enjoyment are increased.

Hi Michael- how many times have I uttered that phrase on our many car trips. What I've learned is to sit back and enjoy the journey. I'll get there when I get there.

We may need to get out some of those old photo albums that record our special trips of the past.

Roy Kelley - although not as well-documented as an album or other "physical things" my mind can replay some of those special trips .

The nice thing about the road trips I take now versus any I took as a kid. When I need to stop to go to the bathroom I don't have to wait til somebody wants to stop. I can stop when I need to. As far as saying are we there yet was something you didn't ask when dad was driving.

Sharon Lee - I was kinda amazed when I heard of some horror-like stories of roughhousing and all kinds of childhood shenanigans while growing up, there was none of that allowed in our household especially while riding in the car.

Perfect advice for the current times. I remember road trips as a kid did seem to take forever but going back on the same trips as an adult is so much different. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michael,

My Dad always made sure the journey was exciting and I loved traveling with him.

Wasn't it nice to be so completely secure in knowing that the smartest people in your world were in the front seat, guiding us through the journey of childhood?

Debe Maxwell, CRS - so many, including my Dad, seem to know the way without the aid of a GPS.  In or out of the car.

I could easily go political with this...that is where my mind went. I won't though. Aside from that...one more post to send me back in time to my childhood. My family was parked in a hospital parking lot while one of my parents was in visiting someone. I don't really remember the details but my brother jumped from the back seat into the "way back" of the station wagon and his shoeless foot landed on a glass bottle. Bottle broke and cut his foot. At least we were already at the hospital.

Sharon Tara - when you identify the space as 'way back" of the station wagon, the visualization becomes much clearer for me and is also a memory of how we might describe it.

Sorry to jog your memory of your brother's unfortunate incident but yes, it was good, that you were "ready".

As for the political directions, this post could take...well, this is one of those times when silence is my friend...it doesn't always happen but it proves to be a good companion - often.

When I was a kid, we used to go night horseback riding at a small stable near my house. I always thought it was amazing, how the gentle stable horses would dutifully bounce along as we took off on our ride . . . AND THE MOMENT THEY KNEW WE WERE HEADED BACK  . . . they would double-time it back to the comfort of the stable, food and water and love and no one on their back.

The journey is different in different directions . . . it just depends on what is waiting for you at the end.

Candice A. Donofrio - "Hey" or is "Hay" more appropriate?  Hardy Har Har!  I like the memory you shared and, of course, many journeys often include many directions along with a dose of "it depends".  Just because.

Thank you for the recognition within the Bartender Make It A Double  group - I appreciate it.   And that "purse" is without a doubt..."fabulous".

Michael,  Llisten to those who have the "knowledge".  Don't be lead by those who tell you they "know."

Great wisdom for life and especially for the events of Spring 2020 when you posted here.

I get the "are we there yet" usually about 5 to 7 minutes into any car trip. I tell my grandchildren to set back and enjoy the journey. They ask the same question roughly 5 minutes later Michael Jacobs
