As I mentioned yesterday, this seems to be a moment where many people have been passing away, and the news came in yesterday morning that Betty Wright had died. You may not know her, but she was a fabulous singer and mentor to many younger singers, opening up her own label, and not only singing her own material, but also backing for many other big names as well as being a session singer. So, please enjoy this tribute.

 

 

No Pain, No Gain and now Clean Up Woman

 

 

Tonight is the Night, a slighlty sexy number and an old recording of Betty Wright.

 

Stay safe and healthy everyone. Hopefully tomorrow we can play just some simple memories with no tears for those who have died.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 , I had not heard of Betty Wright before.  I also do not think I have ever heard such high notes reached by a performer before.  Amazing voice.

Rick Frissell she was very well loved and as you say could hit those high notes.

Barbara Todaro I think you missed something, she certainly knew how to entertain.

Nina Hollander I think it is a shame such a gifted entertainer was known by so few.

Grant Schneider glad you remember the song, it seems several of her songs were lifted by other artists, from what I gleaned she had to fight sometimes for what was hers.

Brian England she did, I don't think she got the recognition she deserved from the public.

Joan Cox yes, unfortunately he did and I featured some of his tunes yesterday.

Bob Crane she will do that, sometimes it takes a death before a star is recognized, think about artists specifically.
