Father's day is Sunday. The younger people on here don't quite understand the meaning of this day...Well, at least I don't think.

We alway's take parent's for granted, at least while they are young. By young, I mean...you have teenagers....

Today, Tim Russert died...at 58, his son just graduated from college...

That is not the point here though...even though this makes me so sad...,

Like Tim say's...."It takes as much time to be a jerk to someone as it takes the time to be nice to someone."

That is so true...think about it...

I am so in Love with my father...he has been the best husband ever to my Mother...they have been married at this time for 58 years this May...

I started to do detail's, deleted that.

Love your family, do what is nice for DAD on Sunday...Appreciate what you have...Life is short...take the time to enjoy it...

Touching post, Karen.

I do not have that experience. Was brought up by my mom, it was after the war and there were few men, left of that generation, that returned from the war.

What happened to Tim?

Karen - I seemed to dwell more on Tim's elderly father than on his son today.  Big Russ just lost his wife a couple years ago...and now his son....and yes, my thoughts are now with Luke and Tim's wife.

Karen, I was watching golf yesterday when they broke in with that news.. Very very sad.  We all must cherish the time that we have.

Mary,

Tim had just placed his father in an assisted living facility, I think after he arrived back from his vacation in Italy.

I do think Big Russ is really going to be in need of prayers.  Luke and Tim's wife as well, and the rest of us...he was like a house hold word!

Matt,

I couldn't believe it.  I stopped by a friends after a manicure and could believe it when she told me...we just sat in silence and watched FOX new's for about 30 minutes...didn't even talk...What a shock.

What's even sadder is tomorrow is Father's Day...

Oh and BTW, happy father's day to you!

Karen, I hope you'll get to spend the day with your Dad. I know how important that is. How I wish that I could have one more day with mine. I wish your Dad the very best Father's Day ever!

Very nice post.  Tomorrow, well i have no dad now.  He left us last year and went to Heaven.  I will say that i so agree with you, Karen and hope everyone out there hugs their dad, granddad or male in your life that's had a big influence on you.  i hope all of the dads, et al, enjoy their day tomorrow.

Leigh,

I hope all the Dad's have a great day tomorrow as well, at least the one's that deserve it.

I feel for you.  I was crying on the phone with another agent who had lost her Dad over 10 year's ago, wrote a tribute to him, and we both cried.  Me for my father (end stage Brain Cancer) and her as she still misses her father after 10 years...It was a nice cry though...and a great bond with yet another wonderful person that I've met here on AR.

thank's for you post!

Jim,

Send me an email, what is still wrong and I'll see if I know anyway for you to help her...((hugs)), I know this is difficult, however...as we spoke before...email me. Don't know if I can guide you anywhere, but I sure as heck will try!

Hi Karen - I hope you had a fantastic Fathers Day. Mine was a great time with my Family this weekend. I tend to burn the candle at both end but my weekends always belong to them.

Best wishes!

Nice post Karen and it is sad about Tim. So sudden. I was a fan of his and just watched a program about 2 months ago of all the hosts from the show and it was really interesting.

Karen, I wish I could have seen my dad on his day but being 2400 miles away, its not always feasible with flight prices. He and mom were suppose to spend the weekend at their beach house. My dad was a tugboat captain for over 30 years and dearly loves being near the ocean. They were not able to go, mom just finished her last radiation treatment thursday and is in a lot of pain. The last 10 treatments are more concentrated and cause a lot more pain. He happily said "another time" your mom is the most important thing right now. What a dad, he loves her and all of us dearly. I hope your father is doing abit better. Take care, Nori

Oh Karen, Believe me I know, been down the marriage road twice. Once for 20 years (father of my kids) and the other is just going on 7. Neither worked out, although the second time we really tried but I married my best friend not husband and wife relationship, although we care for each other deeply. Just best friend kinda love. We are still married and live in the same house raising our 3 year old grandson and his medical benefits are great and right now I need them. We'll get a divorce whenever, its just a piece of paper to both of us. Sounds weird but for now it works and someone has to raise the little one. Someday before I'm too damn old (47 now)I would love to find the kind of happiness my parents have but in these hussle-bussle days I wonder if that kind of love still exists out there? Congratulations on your parents longevity in there marriage. That is rare to find. Take care, NJ
