Is the Glass (Your Business) Half Full or Half Empty?

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty 2021016812

In the last month or so I have seen a steady increase in my business.  I am planning to have a very good year and am making plans to continually improve my business practices and to keep that trend going next year.  When I speak to other top agents in the area I hear similar things from them.  They are what I call the glass is half full crowd.  They seem to be in the minority.

The majority of agents in our area are slow and they will tell you that in a very negative way.

Now one of the things that I believe is keeping the glass is half full crowd busy, is their attitude.  Buyers and sellers want to work with someone who make them feel good about what they are doing and they want someone who they believe will bring them success.

If I were a potential buyer or seller, I would not want to be represented by someone who is not doing well and had a negative attitude.  I would want the agent who is doing well and is moving forward.

If you are struggling in your business, take a step back and look at you're your attitude.  Do you have a plan to win?  Are you sending out a positive message?  Do others want to be associated with you and represented by you?  if the answer is no to any of those questions, you know where to start.

If you are doing well in your business, think about the things that are contributing to your success and continue to improve upon them.  Most important, always look at the glass as half full.

Hi, Randy - My glass is almost full.  I have a good business, a great husband, and a wonderful life.  I've got just enough business I can pick and choose to a certain extent who I want to work with.  My clients are the highlight of my career.  They are all interesting and fun people.  Those that aren't usually find someone else to work with!

Attitude is where it is at...How much fun are you to deal with ? If you sing the media song about how horrible the housing market is...do you think folks will want to do business with you ?  To your blog I will add...if you are having a good year....and we hope that is the case...analyze where "the good" is coming from...and keep making it better....Every prosperous wish !

Randy - Not only is my glass half full but I find myself having to limit my time somewhat with the half empty view.  There is only some much I can listen to - so imagine what others not in the business feel.

Great post. My glass is half full and I think that's why I'm doing well. Buyers like being around positive agents.

So many positive things can happen when your glass is half full.  Your attitude can be contagious.

I totally agree that attitude is everything.  I remember back in the 80's when I experienced my first "slow market".  My broker called us all into a meeting and fired half the people in the room.  They were the half-empty group.  The rest of us learned how to prospect and use our skills to sell real estate.  It was great!

Attitude is a lot but I can't totally agree with you. There are many good agents in Michigan that are working hard, have a good attitude and are having a tough time. Home values here have fallen tremendously, buyers are scarcer, mortgages are harder to get through. I know some agents that have "sold" the same house 2 or 3 times only to have financing fall apart. I respect many of these good agents that have fallen on tough times and some have had some bad luck on some deals.

Sally & David - I am having a good year.  This may be the best month I have ever had.  You are right on the money.  Figure out what is bring you success and keep improving it.

Daniel - Not just real estate in the other parts of your life also.

Steve - You are so right.  I try not to spend too much time around the half empty crowd.  It is easy for them to drain your positive energy.

LaNita - I also prefer to be around positive energy.  Think about the people you look forward to seeing.  They are not the negative types.

Mindy & Jay - Absolutely

Jean - I had the most unpleasant task of laying off 50% of the employees of a small company many years ago.  It was my first task assigned to me, when I came on board.  We had a similar result.  Those who stayed helped build a wonderful, profitable company from one that should have been dead a few months before.

Russ - They may be having a tougher time.  Without the positive attitude and self motivation they probably would not still be there.  I am sure there are some even in that environment who are gaining market share.

George -  I want to thank you for your blog on the glass half full or half empty. When I read it, I thought I was looking at the glass half full, but as I really focused on my thoughts the past couple days, I noticed there were some empty thoughts, dragging me down. It has been a rough month, but due to your blog I'm looking past the difficulties with hope for a better tomorrow. My wife has joined me in this - looking at the glass half full. Seems so simple, but so easy to lose focus when circumstances are rough.

So, thank you for making a difference in my life and for my family.

Kathy - What I reap this year is a result of what I did last year and so on.  That is one of the things many have trouble with.  No marketing this year no eating next year.

Brian - In sales challenges are opportunities.  Those who can overcome the challenges will finish at the top.
