Mike Holmes' second book, "The Holmes Inspection: Everything you need to know before you buy or sell your home..." (ISBN 978-1-55468-043-6) hit bookshelves this month ... just in time for Father's Day. (*hint hint wink wink*) And many booksellers are offering discounts off the $29.95 cover price, so run out and get your copy now.
I highly recommend this book (and Mike's first book, "Make It Right".) "The Holmes Inspection" is full of information and questions-to-ask checklists, presented in an easy to read style. Even if you aren't selling your home now, there's lots applicable to homeowners (e.g., spotting signs of problems, examples of bad repairs, maintenance issues, etc). [Comment: regional differences aren't covered. For example, electrical inspections in Ontario aren't performed by municipal building inspectors. For electrical inspections, we have the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). However, the work performed by licensed contractors under the Authorized Contractor Program is presumed to be code compliant and thus, instead of work being inspected, the contractors are audited.]
By the way, if you want to make it an extra special gift, get it personalized! Mike will be at Chapters in Burlington (Ontario) this Sunday for a book-signing session.
