I read today that the Pflugerville public library is expanding to roughly three times its current size.  Local voters approved $7 million in bond money for the project in May.

The Pflugerville Community Library opened its doors in 1999.  Recently, with the addition of a new director, Kathy Frieheit, and extended hours, they have welcomed more members and a handful of new employees as well.

The staff is excited about many of the new programs, including computer classes, a teen advisory board, an outreach to local assisted living residents, expanded summer reading programs, and more.

The expansion is set with an estimated completion date of October 2010, and it will bring 30,000 new square feet to the facility.

In my family, we are all big readers, so this is the type of news we like hearing.  We typically use the Round Rock library more often because it is far larger.  It's nice to think about having a larger, state-of-the-art library facility five minutes from my house.

Having lived in Pflugerville, Texas for over 13 years now, I have watched the area grow in some remarkable ways.  Here is a previous post that I wrote about our town:

Jason- That means your town is growing. Our remodeled and expanded library in Wellington was just completed in 2007. We love the library!

KATERINA - I look forward to this particular perk that comes with the growth of the community.  Shopping is one thing, but reading is awesome!

Hi Jason ... It's always great to hear that a town is expanding a library.  It's a good sign that a town is thriving and values an informed citizenry.  Of course, the fact that I was a librarian for many years has nothing to do with my opinion ;)

That is great news!  Reading was my favorite relaxation tool prior to finding AR.  Oops!  I am reading on AR too!
