Neither one of us has ever been a fan of the word motivation. We have always felt that motivation comes from an outside source. That outside source often has an accountability system as part of the motivation process.
By definition: Motivation is the word derived from the word 'motive' which means needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the goals.
Instead we are big fans of inspiration. Inspiration comes from our inner guidance and brings forth feelings of enthusiasm and creativity. This morning even though I was up early, I could not come up with a post for my usual Monday Musings.
So I folded laundry, had breakfast, planned the day...and the inspiration defined as stimulation or arousal of the mind, feelings, etc, to special or unusual activity or creativity, came my way and flew off my keyboard.
When we form a partnership with our different team members that work with us, our standard is to hire self-starters. Self-starters do not need motivation, they do not need a boss to tell them what to do. And the most important aspect for us is that there is no need to follow up to make sure the job is done. For us, it represents peace of mind.
Another definition of inspiration is: "the act or process of inhaling." In meditation one starts with regulating the breath. When something unexpected comes our way, we take a big breath instead of reacting. That breath settles us and inspires us.
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again."
Thich Nhat Hanh
“Your breathing should flow gracefully,
like a river, like a watersnake crossing
the water, and not like a chain of rugged mountains or the gallop of a horse. To master our breath is to be in control of our bodies and minds. Each time we find ourselves dispersed and find it difficult to gain control of ourselves by different means, the method of watching the breath should always be used.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
Wishing you all an inspired week ahead!
