6 Highest Priced Houses to Sell in 1st Half 2020

Winnetka/North Shore

Using $3 million as the starting point, the six highest priced homes to sell in the North Shore were in Winnetka and Glencoe.

Winnetka IL Luxury home480 Oak St. Winnetka - $3,000,000

The only lakefront home on the list, this 5-bedroom, 5 ½ bath home was built in 1913 and was recently renovated.

Set back from the street on 1 ¼ acres, this 6-bedroom, 7 full bath and 2 half-bath home has an art deco interior once featured in Architectural Digest. It was built in 1929.

554 Longwood Ave. Glencoe - $3,400,000

Built in 2019, the home has 6 bedrooms, 6 full baths, and 2 half baths. The builder is known for incorporating a sport court with 18” ceilings and this house plus the next two all have this feature.

677 Sheridan, Glencoe - $3,725,000

Also built in 2019 with almost ⅔ acre, the home has 5 bedrooms and 7 full baths plus 2 half-baths.

Winnetka IL luxury home884 Higginson, Winnetka $4,150,000

Winnetka Luxury Home68 Locust Rd., Winnetka - $8,750,000

The notorious “Le Grand Reve” home - notorious for being on the market since January 2010 with a list price of $32,000,000. It was built in 2008 with 5 bedrooms, 6 full baths, and 4 half baths. The home regally sits on 2 acres and was designed by Los Angeles architect Richard Landry known as the “king of megamansions.”  According to the Multiple Listing remarks, this is his only home east of Beverly Hills. It has a stunning almost 17,000 square foot interior including a great room, second kitchen, library, and sun room. The basement includes an exercise room, spa area, and theater.

In the same 6 month period in 2019, there were 14 homes that sold for over $3 million. In that time period, Winnetka had 10 sales, Glencoe had 3, and Northfield had one.

Clearly, the coronavirus took a big chunk of the market but I would add that we have not yet had our “spring market.” In normal years, home sales in the North Shore communities of Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield, and Glencoe slow down considerably June 1. This year, they’ve been rising since the end of May because of the pent-up demand.

Currently, there are 33 homes for sale in the North Shore priced over $3 million. Ten in Glencoe, 9 in Kenilworth, 3 in Northfield, and 10 in Winnetka. While Wilmette is part of the North Shore and has many luxury homes, they are rarely priced this high.

Margaret, those are some stunning homes, and always fun to see what $3million will buy in other parts of the Country.
