When the new "Welcome to Wenatchee" signs were put up at each end of town late last Fall, the old "Apple Capital of the World" sign came down.  There was a HUGE uproar over that in the community.  In the meantime, the city has decided Wenatchee does need an "Apple Capital of the World" sign and ask for design submissions.  The city council found out there is no doubt the citizens are passionate about their Apple industry roots.

This week the various designs were revealed, and a winner has been selected.  Here is the full text of the article, and a link to our local newspaper The Wenatchee World.

Here is a link to the article about the 9 designs that were submitted for consideration.

I had no idea Wenatchee was the Apple Capital of the World!  I bet you grow really good ones there!  Hope you get a sign that makes everyone  happy.

They tried to change the "Colorful Colorado" sign last year and met with much opposition.

Kristal,

Unfortunately, many of the apple orchards in town have been removed to "plant" new homes. But there are still alot of fruit trees (apples, pears, cherries, apricots and peaches) in the Valley.  And, we have an 11 day Apple Blossom Festival every year from the last week-end in April through the first week-end in May.
