What My (former) Clients Did . . . FOR ME!!

In real estate, agents always seem to taut the little niceties they do for their clients.

Maybe sending them a bouquet of flowers, a "Welcome to Your New Home" sign of appreciation, or some other gift to show how nice it was working with them.

I think a show of appreciation is a good thing.  I'm not sure how many agents you have in your local area, but we have a few.  So when I have clients who engage my services I never take that lightly.  And when our deal closes, I like to offer them a little "thank you" gift.  A sincere gesture.

There are plenty of companies that "spam" us all the time, filling up our in boxes with little trinkets they want us to buy and give out "to promote" ourselves.  Keychains, football schedules, speciality calanders, recipes post cards, seasonal promotional gifts, and refridgerator magnets adorned with our calling card and mug shot.  Just about anything to promote ourselves and give a little freebie to our clients (past and present).

I LOVE to give my clients nice "thank you" gifts.  Maybe a nice wine/cheese basket, or a gift certificate to Lowes, or even a coupon for a pizza -- moving in day . . . who wants to cook??

But here's something you don't read about too often; what a client did for me . . . their Realtor(r).  Sure, I've gotten a houseplant before, or a thank you card, even a bottle of wine . . . it's rare.

My BEST GIFT happened just last week and I wanted to share it with you, and hopefully you can add your comments of the niceities, and/or out of the way, out of the ordinary things your clients have done for you!

I had knee surgery two weeks ago and when I mentioned this to my former clients they offered to pick up me and take me home!  They know I live alone, and my son had to work that day.  They were all too willing to assist me in my time of need!

They called and emailed me several times, dropped by, and even bought me some yummy "turtle" candies (chocolate covered carmel with nuts!)

I represented them a little over two years ago.  They were relocating from out-of-state, and we looked at a lot of properties until they found "the one."  Because we did get on well together, and they didn't know many people, we stayed in touch with each other . . . mainly me asking them if I can use them for reference purposes, me stopping by to see what they've done to the place (some VERY nice remodeling), etc.

In a time when the media has negative things to say about Realtor(r), and listings are sitting, and anxiety is palpable . . . I had the nicest compliment I could every have imagined.  A genuine caring family, willing to go out of there way for me.  Hospitals are not the most pleasant of settings, and my pain was great.  But my friends . . . Tina and Darrel . . . really showed me just how much they cared.

When did your client do something EXTRA SPECIAL for you!!

It would be great to read some stories of (former) clients doing something for us!  After all, we're people too, and a friend in need . . . is truly a friend indeed!

Carla, that's a heartwarming story. I stay in touch with my past clients. Looking back, you spend more time with buyers and tend to bond more with them.

Carla, it's rewarding to know that you're appreciated. This story makes up for a lot of bad client stories. Thanks for sharing.

Carla:  Haven't had an off the charts nice moment like that one, but I did help a great young couple last year buy their first home. It was a whirlwind experience.  They found me on Realtor.com and interviewed me like I was being cross-examined.  I passed and we found a home for them in two trips out.  During our time together, we got to know one another and they knew that I had cats at home that were my babies.  So at closing, I gave them my standard gift of a Lowe's gift card, and treated them to lunch.  They gave me a Drinkwell pet fountain and a toy specifically picked out for each of my cats.  (Did I mention they were animal lovers like me and worked for a veterinarian).  I was so touched.  I'd seen their financial statements.  They really didn't have spare cash to throw around.  I was honored that they appreciated me that much.
