Nerdin Gardens 2020: Teeming with Productivity

As tenured, back yard gardeners, we gladly take on the responsibilities of ensuring all processes and systems are in place for success. Tilling, enriching the soil with nutrients that will last the season long plus placement, matters.

Every year comes with a set of challenges like weed control, adequate pollination and weather conditions. Taking the natural approach regarding harmful pests rather than using questionable, harmful chemicals is best.

The results are most amazing and fruitful. Plant material is healthy, producing at a steady rate from garden bed to table top. Fresh is best with zucchini, crook neck squash, peppers to several varieties of tomatoes.

Many creatures are most welcome to reside in Nerdin Gardens during the summer months, well into the fall season. They help keep the harmful ones at bay. From praying mantis to ladybugs and lizards, all are well fed.

Collard greens and snow peas grow quite well here, as does strawberries, grapes, muscadines, garlic chives, oregano, jalapenos, sweet red bell peppers, green bell peppers, green chilies, Anaheim peppers and so many more!

What a harmonious setting as the garden teems with productivity due to proper planning. Nature provides us so much in the way of warm, sunny days, giving everything an equal chance of survival to adequately fulfill the end goal.

The garden also provides a place to destress from the day's work activities and enjoy the sounds of birds singing, honey bees a buzzing, watching butterflies flitting from bloom to bloom in an effort to achieve the goals set forth.

In honor of my wonderful uncle who lived in Georgia, that recently passed away, I made collard greens for dinner one night. They were delicious, I hoped to have done him proud! We are most blessed every year to take what was learned from the prior year and implement into the next growing season, to do better, be better.

Growing a garden is much like running a successful business. It takes a sincere commitment, tenacity with much follow through. Happy gardening all, weeds need pulling and vegetables harvested in Nerdin Gardens!
