This is a very good post. You get what you pay for!

Interesting scenario yesterday...Price shopper asked for a quote and I give the estimated fee for the inspection and sewer scope on a 2k sq ft home built in the 1970's. An hour later he texts to ask if I am certified, so I give him a piece of my resume explaining my Certified Master Inspector certification and 17 years experience and a link to the long list of my certifications and experience qualifications. 5 hours later he texts me that he found someone $50 cheaper. I did not want to waste any more time haggling and justifying my already fair price and just let it go.

So another call at 9 pm, I get a call from a new inspector I never heard of asking if I can do a radon test and mold inspection for a client of his because he is not certified and does not have the equipment. I agreed to do what I can. The first question is why the mold test? That is usually asked to be done after finding evidence of moisture intrusion or humidity control issues. I talked to the client and it sounded like a dry stain on a basement ceiling tile near a water line. I advised them to hold off on the $300 lab test until a visual inspection was done. I went to schedule and found that they had started to fill a work order out online but did not respond to my questions on the property initially and I had to cancel to free up my schedule. Then I called the listing companies schedule service and they said I could not schedule the radon pick up time because there was an inspection already scheduled. They let me know who it was (another newer inspector that has been low-balling prices) and it was yet another inspector that had not been told that the clients hired someone else to do the inspection 2 days earlier.

The bottom line, why don't these buyers have any consideration for the inspector's time? Why are they choosing fee price over quality and experience and paying for it almost immediately? Not willing to pay $50 more for an inspector that likely just saved you $300 because of his experience and tools, and this is before any inspecting has been done. This has been going on since the beginning of time I suppose, but it is just aggravating to deal with daily. Sorry, just had to vent.
