In my professional and personal life I find people who fall into one of two categories:
"Go To" or "Go Away".
This week Liz and I needed a new queen bee for one of our hives. A long term queenless hive is destined for failure and it's critical to quickly get a new queen introduced to the hive so the vital social structure is maintained and baby bees are back on the assembly line!
And while Liz and I have learned a bit about beekeeping in the last few years, we're hobbyists and there's a LOT we don't know. Thursday evening we found a true "go to" guy for honeybees. About a 1/2 hour drive into the country and we arrived at George's home and bee farm. LOTS of hives and LOTS of knowledge that he was willing to share. This was beyond transactional (although we did buy a queen bee from him). We got a crash course in how he raises queen bees and runs his bee yard. We've got some ideas to bring back to our own itty bitty 6 hive bee yard and know we can go to him at any point in the future for guidance.
I've got Go To home inspectors, loan officers, title companies, website developers, auto mechanics, appliance repair companies and more. Loyalty earned because I can TRUST them AND they are competent.
My "go away" category can grow too.
The email this morning from the lead service claiming to have texted me (and I never received)? Just a pretense to get a response.
The local dealership I called about getting new tires and couldn't be bothered to respond? Yeah, they're on a certain list too.
People on social media that change comments, manipulate and delete and otherwise prove they're not trustworthy? I've got a special list for them too. Persona non grata.
While I strive to be Go To for people, I may be Go Away for some. I accept I'm not a perfect fit for everyone. But hopefully I am the Go To person when someone needs an agent in my market.
