Tall statuesque Palm trees line the driveway; suggestive of grace, dignity and ever so stately.

Basking in the sun and swaying with the light tradewinds they adorn the forefront of the sky as if a picture awaiting a frame.

Shading my eyes from the sun I peer upwards..upwards.... to be amazed at the height of these guards of the driveway standing at attention.

I wonder how small I must have seemed to them...if they only had eyes.

Beckoning me to enter, I slowly walk towards the entrance of this vast property. I am sure that they are still watching me long and hard as I pass underneath them to continue on my journey.

Gasp!  A wonderful array of colors! I stop to admire and take in the glorious scene that is right in front of me.

I stop to 'smell' the flowers.

Ah, but the simple things in life that I would have missed in my youth of years long past. Impatience and impulsiveness were rulers of this former unsettled soul.

I gaze once more to capture this miracle of 'life' before continuuing on my journey once again.

I stand tall with no regrets. I stop to smell the flowers and keep walking.

I travel through the gates of risk and keep moving along this road.

Continuuing on this journey of my ever changing .......LIFE.

My daughter is in Hawaii now - and I think of her in her youth and impatience.........and your words - and hoping she'll take the time to pause and reflect and always remember...the beauty that surrounds her now!  :-)

Beautiful Sally.  Some of my most "exciting" moments this year have been when I saw the first Crocus bloom and the scent of the Basil in my yard.

Sometimes the small picture is worth a second look.

Sally, This post touched a nerve with many of us it seems.  I do spend time to slow down and stop and "smell the flowers" but it took me too long to learn how to do that.  Beautiful post and very moving.

Woo Hoo! Nature mostly never fails us. It always seems to be there, just waiting for when we most need the relief and balance that is offers.  It asks so little and gives so much. Yet we are all connected to it but often ignore it. Not seeing the forest for the tree that blocks the view.

As we get older we make that mistake less frequently, thankfully. Observation not only brings focus, it provides a whole different set of values that we can focus ON and creates a more comforting balance to life.
