Ask An Ambassador: Are You Refilling Your Glass?

My gladd is always half full.  Attitude.  That is the key

There's a joke about the pessimist and optimist arguing about whether a glass is half empty or half full and the pragmatist walking up, grabbing the glass and knocking it back and proclaiming that was good!  And of course the rest of us realize the glass was always refillable with whatever we prefer.

Well right now some people are upset about the current state of ActiveRain.  Will it be what it was?  Will it be something different?  Will it even BE, period?

But how much energy and mindspace should we give to a situation that we can't truly influence or control?

No amount of writing about how awful it is that "management" hasn't communicated adequately is going to make your phone ring with buyer and seller calls.  The words are nonproductive and there's not a consumer out there that will give a flyin' flip about any internal problems on this site.  Either you're producing information they can use, or your competition is and the phone rings for the first person that provides what they need.

Here's the bottom line for me:  the site was down for about 12 hours and a month's worth of posts are TEMPORARILY AWOL.  Every claim by ActiveRain representatives since Day 1 is we expect to restore the lost. That's posts, comments, points, the whole enchilada.

So since Day 1 I've had a choice:

Get wrapped around the axle or get back to business.

For me, that's not even a decision.

Blogging here, even in its lessened SEO strength current state, still gets me results.

Some posts are more likely to have results than others, but enough hit the target that I can keep refilling my glass and get ActiveRain direct messages like the one I received this evening:

"I am recently widowed and I'm looking for a landominium in the Clermont County area if you think you can help me please let me know. Thanks".

THIS is exactly why I keep pushing ahead.  Maybe that message leads to a client, or maybe not.  But working my blog gave me another opportunity.  The glass refilled.  AGAIN.

It's your choice how to use the site.  Invest in yourself or burn any social capital you might have, your call.  Ultimately you're going to do what you're going to do, and I'm going to do what I'm going to do.  One leads to closing checks, the other way...well enjoy your bitter drink.
