This morning the first thought I had was of my Father, Bal Maraj of Fullerton, California. I heard his words "Don't Grow Up Too Soon" This was one of his favorite saying as I was a child. It still applies today. I came to understand that he was trying to teach me to be patient, and whatever in life that I desired would come to me soon enough.
I have a brother Mark and a BFF Sharon, who is like my Dad's 2nd Daughter. He spent many hours in our childhood lecturing us on the ways of the world and trying to groom us into "being good citizens".
Another one of his famous saying for Sharon and I was "Let's see what happens in 5 Years from now." This would be my dad's response when Sharon and I were asking if we could go on some adventure together, since we were best friends. Sharon and I have now been best friends for 30 YEARS!!!
My Dad turned 60 years old this year and has also enjoyed an additional milestone of coming to the United States legally as a student 40 years ago! I wanted to take this time on Father's Day to congratulate my father, Bal Maraj for three (tree) things.
#1 For living to the age of 60. He had a few health scares but he has braved them all.
#2 Making an incredible journey to America back in 1968, when the world was a difficult place.
#3 Being patient with me as a teenager and young woman. I wasn't the easiest daughter in the world!
On this Father's Day 2008 I wanted to Thank You for being a Great Father and A Loyal Friend! Thanks for Teaching me Patience, Kindness and Love.
