The final segment of this series is Patios. Unlike decks and porches, patios are set on the ground. But, much like decks, they are usually located in the back of the house. Sometimes they are on the side of the house, but it's unusual to see them in front of the house.
They are more permanent, as they are built into and on the ground and are created out of concrete, brick, or stone. Patios, too, come in all shapes and sizes. Because they can be made with individual bricks and stone, you can create all kinds of designs within the space, should you be so inclined.
Patios have become more in vogue these days with the increasing popularity of fire pits. Because of the nature of the patio's materials, fire pits can be built right into it, and it is safer to have the fire pit built into or on a patio than on a deck or porch. In many cases, they are the focal point of the patio. For that reason, patios have made a comeback. Though patios are separate from the house where decks and porches are attached; they make a great outdoor space.
Whether you have a deck, porch, or patio, having an outdoor space has proven to be a significant feature for prospective home buyers. They can see themselves relaxing and visiting with family and friends. Add to it some comfortable furniture, plants, lights, grills, and even a fire pit or chimenea to create an inviting and enjoyable outdoor space.
