Why all the media hype?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Olympic Realty

Is anyone else tired of reading the doom and gloom news reporting of the real estate market, housing bubble or whatever you want to call it.  It seems that one week the media is writing articles to stay away from the housing industry and how sales are completely down compared to last year blah blah blah.  Then the very next week the same media reporter is writing about how now is the time to buy and that it seems most markets have hit rock bottom and the prices will increase.

I haven't seen a real change personally but you know that there are many first time home buyers that are sitting on the fence reading this crap.

Am I alone with this thought?

I am tired of reading about the doom and gloom.

The problem is that here in the Detroit area the doom and gloom is real and not likely to end anytime soon.

Chris-the beautiful part of ActiveRain and other blogs is we can be the media and report the truth.  Yes I am tired of it but the bottom line is the market is what you make of it.

I agree that the market is what you make of it and I am not personally affected by the negative/positive reporting.  It just bothers me to see the flip-flopping but I am sure as long as it sells the media giants will report it!

You are so right!  Anything financial is always good reporting.

I think that the media plays a major role in convincing people to buy, sell or stay on the side line.  A similar situation with the media was the California wildfires, whereas the media was flaunting the danger of the winds (Santa Ana's) the prior day or two before the fires were set.  Terms like "high fire danger" and "red flag warning."  There are other ways to distribute the warnings to those who show know about them.  Back to their effects on real estate, their should be a rule where the economy is concerned, "if you have nothing positive to say, keep you mouth shut."  Great blog.
