ActiveRain member Ann Cummings sad news

For those of you that know long time ActiveRain member Ann Cummings I thought I'd share with you some very sad news.

Yesterday Ann lost her fiancé Dewitt "Bear" Perkins, commonly referred to as her "honey" Bear...for those that know Ann, know that Ann and Bear had been a couple since 1991.

It's hard to think of one without the other and Bear will be sadly missed by all those that knew him and loved him.

Jay and I have many-many memories of Bear, NAR conventions were always a blast with Ann and Bear and we attended many of them together since 1990.

Bear was often the life of the party and wore his signature sunglasses perched high a top his full head of hair.

I don’t know that he ever wore them to cover his eyes but he always had then on his head.

I remember him as a very giving and caring man and we will miss him dearly. He was twice the Seacoast Board of REALTORS president and an executive officer for our Statewide MLS service.

He was home with Ann on Friday afternoon when he suffered a massive stroke. He was conscious and talking to Ann in the Ambulance en route to the hospital when suddenly he fell into a coma of which he never awoke.

He was only 57 years old...far too young to leave us!

I still can't believe this happened. God sure does work in mysterious ways. They say the good die young. This is so true in this instance.

Bear you will be forever missed. We love you...

There are no words to say other than our hearts go out to Ann.....very touching video!

Yesterday I sent Ann an email to express our condolences. Having heard so much about Bear...I know he will be missed. I can't even begin to fathom the depth of the pain Ann must be feeling right now. I don't know what else to say...I'm not good in this kind of situation. My heart speaks louder than my words ever can.

Oh, Monika...how very sad. Ann talked about him a lot and I know he was well loved, not just by her, but by a lot of people. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with Ann. Ann we love you.

It is very nice of you to post this blog in honor of Ann and her Honey Bear. He was very young and I will pray that Ann and Bear both!

I was just thinking about Bear & Ann the other day figuring as another summer season approaches we'd be sitting down for a few beers..... He was truely a gentle giant!

That he was Dan. I know you shared a few with them in a pub in Portsmouth last year on your way to Maine. I still can't believe it!

Monika, I can hardly imagine what Ann is going through right now. Anyone with a nickname of Bear has to be a great guy. And Ann is a wonderful person. My prayers are with her, her family and Bears' family and friends.

Moni - Please pass on my condolences to Ann at the loss of her "huggy"Bear. I know how she adored him and he her. I have been praying for her since I heard the sad news. I will watch for an update on arrangements. Please let me know what I can do to help in any way.

I just got so stunned and shocked. I am speechless for words except to offer my condolences and please let Ann know our thoughts come from afar....

I will follow TLW and Sally of being shocked....my heart goes out to Ann in her time of loss, and to all her friends that knew Bear. And like Linda I am stunned....I am 57 and this just isn't something we think can happen. We haven't even reitred yet, we're not supposed to die. But maybe as Jay says....God works in mysterious ways, and so oftern the Good do indeed die young.

Hello Monika, Celeste sent me an e-mail to let me know of Ann's loss of her Honey Bear. Thank you for graciously letting us all know of Ann's loss in your informative post. I sent Ann an e-mail of my sincere sympathies. When tragedy strikes one of use, it strikes us all.

I have never met either one of them, but I have always admired Ann on AR. My sympathies go out to Ann.

I saw a Twitter yesterday that something had happened and I was afraid it was Bear. I said a prayer yesterday for Ann, and will continue to keep her in my prayers. Thanks for letting us know what happened.

Thank you...what a good friend you are to know that someone really needs some comfort at a time like this...we didn't know him but do know the pain of such a loss and will remember them both in our thoughts and prayers.

It hasn't been a very good week---I'm so sorry to hear the sad news.

Oh my god...I met him...seemd like a very nice chap and I know Ann cherrished him...terrible...I'll be sending my condolences immediately.

What tragic news. I live in Portsmouth and actually went to Ann's on Saturday for her yard sale that she posted about. I was looking forward to meeting her in person for the first time. There was a sign stating the yard sale was cancelled and I wondered what had happened.

Moni...I just heard about Bear this AM at a committee meeting. Thank you for including Ann's address I wanted to send a card.

Thank you so much for this posting and being there for Ann. We adored spending time with Bear and Ann last autumn and can't believe this news - it was so clear how much they adored each other. I used to know that every 603 call would be Bear - I will miss talking to him.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with Ann and her family and friends.

Monika: I am thinking of Ann today, and my prayers are with you all who knew and loved "Bear" - and I know that you will be a tremendous support for Ann today. It will be bittersweet ... the pain of loss is unspeakable and known only to those who have lost a special someone ... but the love, support, and encouragement of friends and family will be great. Your video tribute is very nice and makes me think there will be a lot of NH real estate professionals reaching out to Ann today. I am thankful for those who will be there in spirit and in person ... and so many of her Active Rain and other blogging world friends, too. God bless you all today.

I was so saddened to hear of Ann's loss. I haven't know her too long but know how wonderful she is and can only imagine that Bear was a sweetheart -- one whom Ann will miss dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her during this difficult time.

Wow I can't believe what I'm reading, the past 2 months for me have been filled with this kind of news, not directly but with people around me. Soooooooo sad to hear this and sending {{{comforting hugs}}} to Ann.

The ceremony celebrating Bear's life was probably the most beautiful one I've ever sat through.

My prayers are with her... rest in peace BEAR! too

Monika and all who left comments here - I cannot thank you enough for the prayers and cards and emails. This has been very difficult for me this past week, as one might imagine, and I'm no doubt still in shock and numb at this point.

One positive thing I hang on to is that Bear knew I was with him when this happened, and he was able to tell me, several times, that he loved me and I hang on to that every day, every minute of each of these past days.

Thank you all again for all the prayers and thoughts and wishes - they mean the world to me. I've read this post and each of the comments repeatedly since this post went up. I just wasn't able to actually leave a comment until tonight.

Ann, thoughts, well wishes and prayers are with you from Texas. I'm so sorry to read this and hope you find peace and comfort in knowing that so many people clearly love and adore you here in the rain. You must be an incredibly special person and it is obvious that your Honey Bear was too.
