Local Beauty: Native California Coastal Fountain Grass!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

Pictured above is fountain grass.  We love its maroon feathered color. This is a perennial native coastal California grass.  It is great as part of a drought tolerant landscape, as well as being deer resistant.

As you drive up on highway 154 (aka San Marcos Pass) off the 101 Freeway heading North in Santa Barbara, you will notice that the road on both sides and even up the hills is full of fountain grass.  It propagates itself, and it controls soil erosion.

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning, Alexandra... maroon might not be my favorite color, but I like it in this grass.

Wayne Martin And better yet, this plant is not highly flammable, which is a big concern here in California.

Nina Hollander When you see a whole bunch of these at once, it is quite a sight to behold.  Happy Wednesday, and I am happy you were able to access AR.  It is till wonky on the West Coast, and I am juggling two browsers to stay on and comment. A

We have something similar I see on my walks more in the fall, it has a purple color to it and is a lovely spray. These look delightful and in a mass would be very nice.

I like it too. Grasses are fun for movement in the garden too. I like watching them sway in the breeze.

I like fountain grasses with their feathery look. It is wonderful you have a lot to enjoy on the freeway and nicer still it controls soil erosion. Great added benefit.

Hello Alexandra and Ron - I agree with Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD that the movement of grasses provides a certain excitement to the landscape in a unique and almost voyeuristic way.

I didn't realize that Coastal Fountain Grass was deer resistant.  With its beauty, it would make nice landscape enhancement in areas populated with deer.

Myrl Jeffcoat Both our homes in Los Angeles and Napa had deer around it.  We were fenced off in both instances, but I would have love having these grasses bordering the fences...A
