Who is interested in getting a realtor team to run in the 2009 ING miami marathon? It is Jan. 25. Training would start some time in September and since I have decided to welcome my 5th decade, yes, turning 50 in Jan ---- with gusto--- I refuse to become a frump or one of those realtors that refuses to get their photo updated for their business cards --- you know who they are --- you take a double take when you see them in person. I laugh every time. Let's be proud instead of trying to fool everybody.
I run, but am not a runner. I set a goal in 2006 to run a 1/2 marathon --- oh, my gosh -- I was so out of shape --- I knew I attended too many happy hours and really missed spending time in the gym, but I couldn't get into a positive pattern for any length of time. So - when I decided on the 1/2 marathon, I told my friend who is so inspiring --- (she just ran Boston this year)--- so I couldn't back out of it. Guess what? I did it and it was one of my proudest momemts. It wasn't because I just ran that 13.1 miles, but because of what it took to do it. You couldn't just study the night before and pass the test. You had to put the time in and you learned so much about yourself and it was a new relationship with my body. Yes, I got sore feet - blisters - may have even gotten heat stroke (probably not, but it felt like it)-- but, when you start to read and study --- and actually listen to others who do know more than you, through experience.... some of these things didn't have to happen. The only thing you really have to do ---- just like Nike...... JUST DO IT. You run so many miles a day, week and work your way up --- but do it slowly and with your health as the major focus.
So -- before I think of maybe another mile market to prove my youth with.... come on, hold me to it and join in.
Let me know...
Pat
I just turned 50 and ran my first marathon in San Diego on June 1st..... Heard Miami was a nice one but didn't know if the temperature transition from training in Connecticut during the winter to the heat of Miami would be too much for me.... I'll think about it.
