Using a Home Management Planner to Organize

By
Industry Observer

When you are buying a home or selling your home, it is essential to keep all of your paperwork organized and easy to access.  Keeping all of your important papers in a Home Management Notebook can help streamline the process and make life a lot easier.  For both selling my last home and purchasing my current home, I used a three-ring binder to keep all of my important papers in one spot.  This really helped whenever I needed to access the papers or if I had a question to ask my realtor.

Using a three-ring binder with page dividers was key to keeping the entire process running smoothly.  Additionally, if you are trying to organize your life during this time, a notebook can be helpful.  You can keep track of your packing lists, things-to-do, a running list of packing materials to purchase...the list goes on.  There are no limits to how helpful a home management notebook can be.

Here are some examples of categories that may be helpful for you during this process:

  • Things to Do - Here you can manage all of your daily tasks and your complete to-do list.  If you need to call a repairman to fix something before you sell, record it here.  If you need to purchase some new throw pillows to make your home look a little bit more inviting, you can record it here.  Also, you can record a list of neighborhoods to visit or schools to research if you are buying a home.  This will help you feel less overwhelmed as there is often so much to do when buying or selling a home.
  • Budget and Expenses - Recording all of the things you are spending money on throughout this process is very important.  This will help you make wise decisions when you need to make them.  For example, how much money can you afford to spend on staging?  What is your budget for hiring a cleaning specialist, if any?  Knowing what you are spending money on can help you make smarter decisions when you are selling your home.  Also, if you keep track of your budget and expenses regularly, you will know exactly how much you can afford to spend on a new home.  Keeping all of your expenses and budgets up-to-date will help you make the best decision when it comes time to buy a home.
  • Cleaning Schedules - This will be important to keep up if you are selling your home.  You want your home to look it's best, and keeping up with cleaning is an imperative part of the process.
  • Decluttering Schedules - This is also an important thing to keep track of when you are selling your home.  You want your house to look neat and clean, and in order to do that, you need to declutter as much as you can.  Even though people are looking at the home, you don't want them to be so distracted by the clutter that they can't envision themselves living there.

If you keep your life organized prior to buying or selling a home, you will be much better off throughout the entire process.  Further, keeping all of your paperwork together in a three-ring binder will also help you to streamline the process and keep everything in order.

The process of buying or selling a home can be stressful.  Using Home Management Notebooks can ease some of this stress.  If you would like to read more on the benefits, you can access some more articles here:
