When it comes to youth soccer, it doesn't get much better than the nationally recognized soccer complex located right here in Overland Park. It's the hub of competitive play in the Midwest region. Soccer tournaments are hosted here regularly, almost all year round. On any given weekend, the many soccer fields (at the corner of Switzer and 135th) are in full use and the parking lots are completely full with license plates from all over the country. And, because of all this activity, hotels in Overland Park have steady weekend business from March through November, as winters here are a little shorter than in other parts of the country. Somebody must have had the vision, if you build it they will come!
Kids who play here locally take their soccer pretty seriously. Of course, having a professional soccer team in the Kansas City Metro has very much influenced the local youth soccer programs, some founded by the real professionals of the sport who have made a commitment to being the best. They have made youth soccer here a step above other parts of the country, starting with the highest caliber of coaching. Unlike in most communities, here the local youth soccer organizations have a special pro sport affiliation and because of Sporting KC they can offer a certain level of expertise for the kids who play.
These youth "club" soccer organizations in the Kansas City Metro have earned a reputation for producing some of the best players in the nation, and this Overland Park soccer complex (sponsored by Scheels) is where aspiring players are often identified by the college recruiters.
