Day 8 and Counting - - - FB Page still No Where to be Found!!

And on the 8th Day...I rested...I have survived a full week without Facebook...or at least the FB I was used to.

Will Rogers once claimed..."Even if you are on the right track...you will get ran over if you just sit there!"

As I mentioned in another blog...I do a lot of advertising and use FB and it works for me...well over 1,000 to 1 return on the dollars I spend. My first land auction was a facebook lead...with a 20K + commission...so yeah...it is tough not having it. My most recent sale of a $350k home was a listing I received because of FB.

It happened last week within a 15 to 30 minute period...and it could happen to anyone. They took over my page and tried to take over my advertising account on FB. They loaded some ISIS material and I am not sure what else before my site was blocked.

SO now, 8 days later...I cannot access my FB page...nor make changes to my original Mach1 Realty Nebraska page...my WayneJamesInvestments page...my Messenger...My Instagram...or anything tied to them such as clearing my advertising account. Remember the saying: Don't put your eggs all in one basket? Yeah, I messed up as all three palttforms are tied together...one goes...they all go.

The agent that works for me cannot add me to our company page because she is an editor but not an admin.

Note to self: Make sure you have 2 admin in the future.

I followed the FB protocal for reclaiming the page And as far as I know I jumped through every hoop (ok..stepped through) and did what FB wanted to prove I am me.

All I get is a message that the page has been permanently deleted...and we all know that is not true...but...but...But when you are such a large platform we get lost in the haze and smoke.

I am sure they have millions of attacks daily and who knows from where. AR issues on steroids attacks I suspect.

So when you drill down into the problem...I am just a speck of dust as I mentioned previously. I mean...that is a no-brainer!!

Unless someone has a solution besides "following the instructions" on FB...I am starting over.

My phone number was blocked but now appears to be unblocked.

SO: If you were a past Facebook friend .... you will be receiving a new FB request from me in the next week.

One thing is certain...someday I will not be around to fight this good fight between good and evil...but for now...that day isn't today!! I shall rise again on FB my friends!!

This is what I think: My IP address was exposed (not hidden from the internet community) and I suspect that since my site also has my name, street address and email...all they needed was the IP address. I did not have two step authentication set up. I also was on the road when notified and did not heed the email or rather did not see the email until it was too late. The big culprit here is the IP address being exposed.

I don't think the IP address has anything to do with this.

99% of the people using the internet have their IP visible. The people that hide are often doing illegal stuff, or are paranoid and don't want to be tracked.

Passwords are usually the culprits for most hacks.

John Henry, Florida Architect Has a great point. We need to backup our data we put on various sites. Now the vast majority of the photos I have on my computer and every so often I pull out a 64gig zip drive from our safe and load more photos and important data on to it.

As we all know from the loss of June data on AR...we should backup what we write. Another way I believe on FB is too always link to another persons FB page when posting something that may be historical...I will get back with you on that.

I have auto backups running so I do not have to think about it. My system runs auto backups every hour to SpiderOak encrypted cloud storage, 600 miles away, for disaster protection.

I also have Acronis True Image running auto backups every 12 hours to Samsung 64 GB USB FIT+ flash drives that I leave installed in my USB ports. These are rugged, tiny thumbnail-sized flash drives that do not protrude and do not get accidentally bumped. Periodically, I will remove a recent backup flash drive and store it in a fireproof, waterproof safe.

My primary files are stored on a Samsung 500 GB SSD. I do not use hard disk drives anymore.

Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Maybe you should route this up to your local TV stations in your area to see if they will pick up your story. Or, maybe even contact your local Congressman and Senator..... Tech is being watched on the HIll.

Enough publicity just might get those at FB to do something.

Maybe a lame brain idea on my part, but I'd really be PO'd if I were you my friend after all that effort, not to mention, your advertising dollars..... Don't think FB would think kindly if you warned other advertisers out the of FB lack of responsibility.

But FB has an account ID that is sorta based (or maybe not) on your pages that you put in there. For sure you have to put a credit card # in there in order to set up an account. I've never seen a 2ndary authorization for it.

Start another FB page while you fight the powers with a new email and different password. While you are at it do not use that FB password anywhere- bad guys know it

So glad I dumped that site years ago after my page was hacked beyond use. That reason plus their reputation for extreme privacy violations.

What does their response tell you about their agenda, Mike? They could do the right thing but choose to let the bad guys bring disrepute to your site. Not the kind of people I choose to do business with.

Makes as much sense as B. G. can't stop viruses on Windows but he can create a vaccine for the world?

Kris...I understand what you are saying however...FB has earned me over 100k in commissions in the past 5 years so it has a place in my portfolio. That is why I use it and would like to get my old page back.

To set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Facebook, go to Account Settings, Security and Log In, then choose your preferred 2FA method. I use Google Authenticator.

I also use LastPass as my password manager, with a unique, long, strong password for every account. I also set up 2FA to log in to LastPass.

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your Facebook page disappearing. I had my page blocked on Facebook for 2 months because I linked to a page that was then hijacked. It then carried over to Instagram since Facebook owns Instagram. I do know I tried to use a different email and it blocked that as well. I hope you get your page back.

I appreciate the comments and advice. I am hoping someone will come up with an actual way to be successful in regaining control of the old page. My FB password was the most complicated one I have ever had...so if they could figure that one out...they can figure 99% of the ones out there.

So sorry to hear, Mike. What a hassle. It seems that no matter what we do to protect ourselves bad stuff still happens, and is not easily fixed.
