Finally!...my boy Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins a race. I have been trying to stay loyal but I have to admit I have been shopping other drivers for a new favorite. But I knew Dale would not let us loyal fans down. I dont care that it finished under caution - I think that its a greater deal that he risked running out of fuel to keep pushing for the finish. Sometimes you have to lay it all on the line. After a 76-race winless streak its not like he had much to lose.
I have had the pleasure of riding shotgun at the Rockingham Speedway in a couple different race cars - all total I have done 25 laps. It is the most exciting thing I have ever done. There is nothing more fun that strapping on a helmet, signing a liability waiver and climbing into a race car in a tank top and shorts. Going three deep into a turn or two gives you a whole new perspective on the sport and has made me a fan for life. The most memorable thing I think a driver has ever said to me was - "Dont worry, we are'nt close to the wall until you can see dust" - good to know.
