Wordless Wednesday...Before and After

There are some Before and Afters that Mother Nature gives us that surpass anything even the best Home Stager could offer.

cicada

(these were on our gate when we came home from our walk! How lucky is that!)

I can remember standing by a tall tree in the front yard of my piano teacher’s as I waited for my mother to pick me up from my lesson.  At certain times of the year, there would be these empty "shells" hanging on the tree. Even then I was fascinated by them...so much so I had dozens of these empty vessels stashed away in a plastic bag so I could examine them. (well… I did until my mother made me throw them out)

Then when we moved to Leesburg, VA, our real estate agent warned us that it was the year of the cicadas and to buy some earplugs. She wasn’t kidding! Our home had gorgeous woods behind it and for several nights we were serenaded by these interesting creatures.

cicada

While there are over 3000 species of cicadas, they fall primarily into three categories...Annual, which emerge every year and Periodicals, which only emerge every 10 years to 20 years and somewhere in between and Proto-Periodicals. You can learn more about them here.

Have you seen any in your area?

Mother Nature must have been drinking the funny stuff when she came up with the design for that creature, Kathy!  Very interesting!

The first and only time I saw cicadas when I lived in Virginia when I was taking care of Mom. Noisy and creepy critters.

We had cicadas one year in NY - wow, they were noisy. And crunchy (they covered the ground - it was gross).

Enjoy your day!

Good morning Kathy,

The sound of music does help one to drift off to sleep occasionally.

Make yourself an interesting day.

Kathy I've heard these guys but not in Phoenix.  Up Northern AZ  while visiting a tourist attraction there was a really creepy loud sound while walking under a bunch of trees. Really loud!!

Grant Schneider aren't they interesting!!!

Kat Palmiotti When we moved to Leesburg, VA, we'd sit in our hot tub and the cicadas drowned out any music we had on.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I wasn't sure what I was looking at when I approached our gate. They're pretty big too.
