Think the Riverton Ut, Economic director saved money this weekend when 11 decision makers took a one day trip to of All places, Cucamonga, California? ( for those of you old enough to remember the old Jack Benney radio show, that is as in Anaheim, Azusa, and Cucamonga fame).

The trip was to give the Mayor, 5 city council members and 5 senior staffers a first hand glimpse at a 150 acre mixed use development that Riverton might mimic for a potential residential-retail development.

Since Riverton, at a population of 36,000 is only 20% the size of the California city, and the winters are about 70% cooler, we hope that our representatives understand scale and architecture better than they understand saving money.

Heres what I mean...... Our entourage is flying down and coming back the same day. This, according to the Salt Lake Tribune news report, will save on hotel bills. (probably 2 meals as well). Lets say $200.00 per person for a total savings of $2200.00.

 So far so good.

Now let me quote further from the article:

"If were succesful, this will help to secure the financial future of the city, so it's a very significant thing to do".

"We would like to do something there that is regionally significant and of long term value".

"It's critical we make the right decision, because this will have a big impact on the west side".

"The site, with its proximity to two highways, would enjoy high visibility a-la Jordan Landing in West Jordan, and The District in South Jordan".

Here is my heartburn, it's from the same article, and it has to do with the Site.

"The city does not yet own the targeted Riverton property-between 12600 South and 13400 West, from Bangerter Highway to the future Mountain View Corridor-and current landowners have not yet formally agreed to the preliminary plan".

I think this also means that the current landowners have not formally agreed on a price either. Land may get very expensive in Riverton Utah. I'd bet on more than a $2200.00 Increase.

To paraphrase a popular TV commercial... 11 Council members to Cucamonga $2500.00, Money saved by coming right back, $2200.00,   Value of hype to Riverton land owners... ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS

By the way city council, don't make me write about eminent domain.
