Our Next Postcard AFTER The Election | Postcards Are Everywhere Now

It’s not a secret that I’m a fan of direct mail marketing with postcards.  Having said that, the absolute worst time to market real estate with postcards is during an election year!!

I go to the mailbox every day and find a thicker stack of postcards than the previous day. The primary election is on September 1st and every candidate is mailing.

Now, it’s a routine. I open the trash compactor, and it’s just like dealing a deck of cards into that liner. If I’m doing that, I’m sure every homeowner is following suit.

There’s actually one political competitor of the person for whom I’m working who has been mailing me the same postcard several times a week for the past month.

Do you think he’s trying to get under my skin? I love politics. It’s so much like the real estate business. Don’t you think? I'm holding off on my next mailing, but I'm sharing the postcard here.

Just a quick thought for the moment...

Hello Barbara - no "secret" recordings are necessary to know your feelings about the effectiveness of direct mail advertising.  It is proven.  And it is certainly well-documented.  No one can say it's hearsay.  Absolutely no one!

You raise a great point, but I'm still doing Just Listed Cards and I may hold off and do a bunch of Just Solds after the election for all mt summer/fall production. Thoughts on this?

My keep in touch database mailer, should I postpone that for 3 months in Sep/Oct/Nov?

OH my gosh, I'm so glad I read this - I was JUST about to send out two neighborhood cards. You're SO right, Barbara! I grab ahold of the postcards in my mail, separating the envelopes from them, and toss them right into the recycle bin...and I'm sure I'm in the majority here! It didn't even register with me how annoying my cards would be right now. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

And, we miss you on Tuesdays...I hope you'll join us next week for our meeting with Ben.

Being consistant is the key.  Clients may throw postcards away over and over again...until they need you.  They will remember your name and admire your persistance.

The postcard will be discarded eventually, so, doesn't it depend on the content of the post card? Informative, useful information attached to your brand, or name of your company should secure the attention of the recipient along with a compelling call to action with an expiration date to receive a limited time benefit should get your phone to ring or email request for redeeming the postcard benefit.

Back to school, Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays occur during the general election period, so, seeking partners to co-op a benefit package to reduce or save consumers money with timely benefits keeps your brand at the front of your target market's awareness mindset. Regardless, I always enjoy your posts and insightful information.

Hi Barbara... love this post card and the message. It should get attention. And I'll be stealing the idea from you (just so you know).

Excellent point!  Don't want your card lost in the others. Just before voting day, our household gets at least 2-3 per day for a week or so

I am getting many right now from agents who I think are trying to beat the political ads, which i have not seen that many of yet. But I like your card.

We don't get many postcards here, but oh the e-mail! There's always been tons of junk, but now it's worse. And every one of them wants money. For whatever reason, I'm also getting a flood of stock market and health cures email. Of course they want money too.

Hi Barbara Todaro - I have always believed in the concept of direct mailing as well.  As long as I have been in real estate, I have opted out of direct mailing during the election season and Christmas.  I usually opt for a Thanksgiving and New Year message.

That makes perfect sense.  Not as many postcards hit my mailbox, like yours, but appreciate the deck of cards phrase!  Good advice!

This year I have been fortunate not getting any politcal election materials in the mail. I have rec'd may be 3-4 realtors wanting me to sell my home. So far so good.

I saw the mailbox truck is loaded with packages. He smiled that there is a lot of online delivery and showed up in everyone recycling bin on discard boxes.
